Hey everyone using boards.ie for the first time, was told i could get great advice here.

i put in a saorview aerial with a proception 8 way distribution amplifier-all distributed to 6 rooms using rg6 cable. I can only pick the digital channels with a saorview tv. I cant pick up any of the terrestrial or analogue(not sure) channels even though its not turned off yet. I have no mast amplifier on the aerial. The aerial im using is a wide band uhf aerial (higher gain). Am i missing something? do I need another aerial-vhf? Living in the south east (waterford) So I use to pick of the english channels-but cant now(i know that they will eventually go). Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you are in Waterford city, you may have the aerial pointing at the Waterford Gallows Hill transmitter.
This transmitter carries Saorview but does not have any analogue TV channels on it.

Gallows Hill transmitts Saorview on Channel 22, does your Saorview TV tell you what channel it's receiving Saorview on?

(btw. both Saorview and Analogue are Terrestrial)

    Hi and welcome to boards.
First off, SaorView IS terrestrial but using a digital signal.
    Ok a few questions
    1. Did this TV show the Irish analogue channels up to now?
    2. Did this TV show the UK digital (FreeView) channels up to now?
    3. Can you post the make and model number.

Thanks for the reply mark, ill check to see what transmitter its hitting, i presume this can be done on the set-i've no proper testing//navigation tools. Does this mean anythin rf45. signal strength 32?. Im living in tramore.

    1. Yes, its now just picking up a snowy tv3, tg4. Not showing rte stations
    2. Yes, but all i had was a UHF aerial. Its picking up itv now (snowy)
    3. Product: Lcd Tv, Hannspree 19 inch
Model No. HSG 1112 Its saorview and freeview ready.

Digital channels are perfect, really impressed with it, apart from losing the analogue. The programme list for digital reads loads of stations but they come up blank on the screen ie english channels and playboy channels ha

Yes, 45 is Mount Leinster, the main transmitter for the South East.

RTE 1 and 2 are on VHF from Mount Leinster while TV3 and TG4 are UHF.
That's why you have snowy TV3 and TG4 but no RTEs.

According to SaorView, Mount Leinster is the transmitter for you, currently on channel 45. Unfortunately if you also want the UK channels they are almost sideways on to the aerial if it's aimed at Mt L. It looks like you will need 2 aerials pointing in different directions or else consider using satellite for the UK channels. (all the main stations are free on satellite)

What UK channels did you pickup with a UHF aerial previously and when did they disappear? Did/do you have a separate aerial for the UK channels now/previously? A snowy ITV probably indicates a weak analogue signal from a licensed deflector in Harristown (or an unlicensed one locally), the analogue signal from the UK was switched quiet a while ago. Deflectors will go by year end. A Freesat or free-to-air satellite setup might be the best way to go.

Signal strength 32 of what, 100? If so, it's probably adequate to receive Saorview but a similar signal strength for analogue TV3/TG4 is too low hence the reason for snowy reception of analogue TV3/TG4.

You say you lost the analogue channels, how did you receive them previously, did you remove or replace an aerial? Little point this close to analogue switchoff, less than 4 months, installing a VHF aerial for analogue RTÉ from Mt Leinster.

Regarding the Freeview channels in the epg, either the Freeview signal is too weak or your aerial setup isn't good enough or both. An aerial installer or someone else in your area some be able to advise on Freeview reception.
