I am 22 year old female and it has always been a dream of mine to go to new york at xmas. this year I really want to go but of course no one is able to due to lack of funds college etc. I dont mind travelling alone although I am a bit cautious and would prefer to go with someone. Is there any tours where people go together as a package? Or is there anyone else out there that has the same dream and thinking the same thing?

Hi, I don't know of any tours, but I went by myself last year. My younger brother was on a J1, but I actually only met once or twice (just to keep the parents happy!!)
Anyway I had a great time on my own, went to see a show, had peace going shopping as no-one to fight with over what shops to go to and when. I also did the escourted tour around New York and went out to the Premium outlet Woodbury Common. Had a ball felt very safe in Manhatthan at night constant police presence. In saying that I didn't stay out too late as I would be quite a nervous person.
I say go for it you'll have a ball, or maybe ask your mum or aunts if they want to come (every girl loves a trip to New York)

I'm only 18 but I went last Christmas (with my family) and it was amazing!I would seriously consider, even at my age going alone. There's an atmosphere in NY at xmas that I can't put into words! As corny as it sounds, it really is magical!EVERYONE is helpful. As long as you get a hotel that you feel safe in it would be fine! Also, I would highly reccommend that you go to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. It's an amazing experience and we got really good tickets on the day for about $50 but there were cheaper available!Just think - Life is short so don't let the fact that your friends can't go prevent you from living your dream :D
    I hope you go!I'm so jealous :D

Having been there about 15 times, both with someone and alone, I would recommend having someone with you. Not necessarily from a safety point of view, but it can be a very lonely place when you're on your own, especially at Christmas! If you DO go alone and start feeling lonely, don't be afraid to spark up conversations with those who appear to be in the same position, you can meet some great people and have an even better time.

I've been there 3 times. Twice with my mum (at Christmas one of the times) and on my own once. I had a better time on my own. I did what I wanted when I wanted. I stayed in Manhattan and felt is was perfectly safe. Just exercise common sense. If you stayed in a hostel you'd probably meet lots of people travelling by themselves. If it's something you really want to do and you're in a position to do it then why not? NYC at Christmas time is lovely.
