Relationship between Fuel Type and Engine Size: Data

    Hey everyone,

I'm currently doing a thesis and was hoping if anyone could help me find some statistics in Ireland regarding the relationship between fuel type and engine size.

I have searched the CSO and DOT websites but cannot find what I am looking for.

I've come across a breakdown for fuel types across all private vehicles registered in Ireland. For example, 85.2% of vehicle fleet in 2005 was petrol and 14.8% was Diesel.

But obviously if i applied these proportions to lets say private cars of engine size 1-1.2L, they would not be correct (There would be even higher amount of Petrol) and for engine size > 2L (There would be a higher proportion of Diesel).

If anyone could help me find some statistics on this it would be greatly appreciated, or perhaps a method of coming up with these statistics.

    Regards,

    LD.

Think this should help do the job. Its released every year with 2010 being the latest published. 2011 should be published October I imagine.

Thanks very much man, but unfortunately regarding fuel type, those documents only give the fuel type proportions for the overall fleet.

    Thanks anyway.

I think I might just have to come up with my own statistics based on making filtered searches on carzone.ie , if anyone has any better ideas, please let me know :)

2008 saw a huge shift to diesel so you should see that in your data if it's at all accurate. Is this for a masters or something?

The basics are pre July 2008 the choice for people was to go for as low CC as possible to keep motor tax and VRT down, after that date it was emissions based which meant people went for larger engined diesel cars with lower emissions than petrol models.

Yeah your right, the statistics for new cars registered in 2011 are 23,246 Petrol and 61,730 Diesel.
