Engine seems to be missing a rev or 2 .

Have been told it could be a hole in the exhaust or an air flow meter .

There is a hissing noise and the engine light is flashing on the dash

There are any number of issues that it could be, having the car properly diagnosed is the only real solution.

The hissing may indicate a split vacuum or intake pipe.

Thanks - into the garage in the morning for diagnosis

Probably €45 for diagnostics , - after that the sky's the limit .

Could be worse than a visit to the dentist .

So went to mechanic today and it was the coil .

Priced at €125 new and I bought one in the car dismantlers for €40.

    Fitted in 2 minutes .

So what was the hissing noise?

Good question the hissing noise .

Well the 2nd hand part was fitted Saturday .- and later that evening the car had same symptoms again - misfiring and engine light flashing .

Car was back to normal on Sunday .
Went to work Monday and drove home - car fine
Today to work and home car driving fine .

Then this evening the same again . engine light flashes and car has no power .

Its coming and going . might be fine now ,and in 10 minutes it may be misfiring again.

So I dont know whether it is a faulty 2nd had coil part or something else .

Will go back to mechanic next few days , cos ya cannot go anywhere with this problem

What did he do to diagnose the coil? What fault codes where showing do you know?

no diagnosis - just an assumption at first glance .-

Just went outside now and started the car and its running fine . This means that I could drive away without problem.

The problem seems to be when I start the car , it will be fine or it may be misfiring .

The loss of power has'nt started during driving yet .

Very unlikely that the old and the new coil would have exactly the same fault, it's possible but the odds are long. You need to get a diagnosis as Nissan Man says. It will be cheapest in the long run and you've already wasted €40. Have you still got the hissing noise?

Car was running perfect today . Done a lot of stop-start driving and every time it went smoothly .

Will ring the car dismantlers in the next few days and tell them that the part did'nt fix the problem and get my money back .

Will need to bring car back to mechanic for diagnosis , but I wonder if it is possible to diagnose when the car is now normal ?

They may not give you your money back on the part.

Whatever fault occurred will be logged in the ECU so can be read. I'd try a different mechanic though as if he was happy to just guess at the coilpack and potentially charge you €125 for a new one without actually diagnosing the problem then I wouldn't be convinced of his abilities.

Could be the injector wiring loom. These wires operate in harsh conditions and can collapse on themselves over time. Cheap fix .

Well guys , I returned the coil to car dismantlers last Saturday and got back my €40.

Now have the original coil re-fitted in the car .

Car going fine again , and this mis-firing has only happened once in the last 3 days .

I know , I need to get the car diagnosed , and will let ye know how I get on ,

It sound to me like a minor fault , but of course it will cost money to find out for sure .

    update
car is back to normal again .- been driving a lot in the last week and the misfiring has stopped .

Mechanic suggests that as it was not the coil , it may be a bad plug .

Anyway am waiting for this to happen again before I spend money

Its one of the injectors - will let you now the full cost next week

How how the diagnosis of a faulty injector made?

A proper diagnosis the first time would have saved you a lot of leg work and hassle tbh, sometimes paying for one pays for itself in the end.

    picture.php?albumid=2235&pictureid=13875

this is the part that needed replacing .

No - it would not have been cheaper to get diagnostics at the beginning

it was best to wait until it stopped working completely .

I paid 100e to get the job done .

    A diagnostics would have cost 45e - part was 60e - and labour 50e

    so saved 55e by waiting
