Simmons scope

I am about to get myself a .223 (hopefully) and it comes with a Simmons 3-9 X 50 scope.
The rifle will be used mainly for foxes out to 200m or maybe a bit further with practice.
Anyway what are your opinions on the scope.Would I be better off paying a bit extra for say a Hawke or a Bushnell or would I be effectively wasting money by doing this.

Please note that I cannot afford a S&B or a Zeiss at this stage and I know that they are in a different league but money is the king at the moment.

If you can afford a hawke you should get one, I'm quite impressed with mine, and anyone that has looked through it was as well

I had a hawke sidewinder 6-24x56 and it was a nice scope, but for the same money u'd pick up a nice 2nd hand scope, but if you wanted a new scope they are good value for money although i heard the bushnells are better, the hawkes can be a bit fussy at focusing when at high mag and get a bit dull between about 18-24, if i were you i'd stick with what you have for now, if you want to upgrade save up for a few months and buy yourself a nice 2nd hand scope in a few months when you have a bigger budget

I used to have a simmons whitetail classic 3.5-10x50 on a cz kevlar in .223, rifle and scope could shoot 1.5 to 2 inches at 300yards so yeah I think they're a good scope, did a lot of lamping with it too, couldn't fault it.

    Thanks for the opinions lads.
When I looked through the scope about 2 months ago it seemed fine but I had nothing to compare it to,so i was just wondering if I would have been better off to "trade up" to a bigger magnification or a different scope when I was doing the final deal with the RFD.

From what you are saying I'll keep saving until something tasty turns up.

Have a Bushnell myself on my 22 and can't fault it, great value for money and won't let you down. I borrowed a Simmons a couple of years ago to use on my 308 till my own scope came in and was really impressed with it. I found it very nice to use and gathered a lot of light (for a budget scope) in early morning and evening shooting. Nice scope for a 223

I had the same scope on my rifle and I couldn't fault it either.

Simmons make some ****e, and some half decent stuff.
What model of Simmons is it?

I have a WTC on my .22lr. I wouldn't class it as good enough for my .223, but it would do at a push.

    Vizzy,
Get the kit and shoot, shoot, and do more shooting.

After a year of asking around and maybe seeing some other scopes you'll be well informed and probably have your heart set on something.

I've been shooting for a while and for hunting purposes, I still have Burris Fullfield II scopes on all of my rifles.

I'll probably be buying a NightForce soon, but that's after a long time of research and it will be sitting on an FTR.

Right now, get out there and shoot. Scopes, rings, and mounts can be a nightmare to suss out. Have some fun, enjoy the sport, and make an educated decision later on when you have some funds to throw down.

It usually bothers me when I spend more on a scope than a rifle!

Not trying to contradict you I'm just saying try it and see if your shooting is any worse with the simmons, I had the WTC aswell, I couldn't shoot any better with a nightforce on my .223(out to 300yards) than with the simmons thats my reasoning to rate it.
