Portlaoise cycling clubs or cyclists?

I am fairly new to cycling and I am used to going out by myself but having done an event with a few people, I found that was far more enjoyable. I am living in Portlaoise and would normally go out Sunday morning and do between 50-70km (avg speed about 27km/h). Are there any clubs that would go on spins on Sunday morning that would cater for my level or any cyclists out there that I could join in with?

As far as I can see, there is no club in Portlaoise that's open to everyone. There is Watchtours, but I think that's only for prison officers, or there's Trilogy, the triathlon club. The nearest clubs are Laois CTC, based in Portarlington, or Ossary CC in Rathdowney.

Most of the Laois CTC guys seem to be racing, but there is a small "leisure" section as well. I went out for a spin with them from Portlaoise recently, and it's a definite improvement to being out on your own. If you would like the contact details for the main guy there, PM me and I'll pass them onto you.

    Is there not St. Peter's?

I may be wrong, but I think that's for officers of another prison in Portlaoise (one is for Portlaoise prison, and the other for the midlands prison).

CTC Laois is indeed the Laois cycling club open to everybody. At the moment though most of the members are racers and the leisure side is less well represented. A couple of us leave from Portarlington at 9:00 on Sunday morning and join up with some more in Portlaoise John Adams garage at 9:30. This Sunday I am heading to the sportive in Naas and I think that there is not much more happening club wise...

I was talking to Pieterblurb yesterday at the Wicklow Peaks sportive, and we're going to try and get a group together from Portarlington / Portlaoise for weekend spins. The first one is next Sunday (8th July), leaving Portarlington at 8:30 and then meeting in the carpark of the Maldron hotel at 9:00. If the weather's ok, we'll head up to the Slieve Blooms.

If you'd like an more details, please post here or send me a PM.
