I have an ATV2, streaming media from a PC.

I'm new to this whole "sharing" malarkey so to test it out, I simply set my music, TV, Movies and Photo folders to share with everyone. I then leave the PC on most of the time.

How safe is this? I know anyone connected to my WIFI can see the data in the shared folders, which is not a problem btw, but how easy is it to access them from elsewhere?

EDIT: I also live in the middle of no where, so neighbours stealing my wifi etc is not a problem. My closest neighbour is out of range

well as long as you have a strong password on your WiFi then you should be ok..wireless hacking is possible but highly unlikely so i'd imagine with a WPA2 aes encryption you'd be safe..tho you can customize so people have to have passwords to access certian data

Thanks for that, I was pretty sure but needed to check. Yeah I have a pretty strong password, all that's shared is movies, tv shows music and a handful of photo's. Plus, they are stored on an external HDD which is not always connected. Nothing sensitive, and I kinda liked the idea of my friends & family being able to visit and simply click into the shared photo's folder and copy pic's that they liked or wanted etc without me having to add them to anything.

I'd say I'm pretty well protected then. Even if someone was hell bent on hacking into my system they would have to be parked outside, in my drive way to pick up the wifi signal.
