Silhouette Cameo

    Hi folks.

I am seriously thinking of getting this machine:

    http://silhouetteamerica.com/default.aspx

I do a lot of paper cut-outs, a bit similar to Rob Ryan and this machine looks like it takes the hard work out of it, or at least lets you mass produce.

I've read reviews for the Cricut (http://www.cricut.com/) and Ecraft (http://www.craftwellusa.com/products/ecraft) and they don't seem to compare to the Cameo.

I draw by hand and scan into Illustrator. I've read that there is plugins for Illustrator. The Cricut will only let you use their shapes and the Ecraft uses no adhesive mats so there is more room for paper getting caught in the machine.

Does anybody own any of these models? Or can you recommend a model to me.

I need it for delicate paper cut-outs. It also needs to be compatible with Illustrator or Photoshop as I will be designing my own work.

    Thank you for reading.

I cant help you with info about the machine, but remember if you are buying it from the US you will need to be able to change the power here - a transformer and a converter and an adapter, most likely. Makes for very awkward heaps of plugs!

    Hi.

Yeah I know about the transformer. I bought something before from the US and have one of those things.

    Thanks

You don't need a transformer at all as the plug/cable has one on it. I've bought 2 cricut machines from the US in the past and didn't need one, just a travel plug is all that's needed.

I have the original Silhouette machine and yes it does cut quite intricitally. I use it for cutting paper mostly scrapbook titles but also shapes/cards etc. but it also cuts vinyl, flock and loads of other stuff.

Have a look at twopeasinabucket.com and search the forums for silhouette you'll see what people use it for and will find out if you can use it with Illustrator. AFAIK some people use inkscape but with the designer studio you can do all your own designs and import others too. It also uses any TTF.
