SATA to IDE adaptor

    Hi there,

I'm currently in the process of upgrading my 8 year old PC.

I've a 250GB IDE HDD that I'd like to use in my setup, so I bought a SATA to IDE adapter. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get it to work.

I've tried the adapter with an IDE DVD-writer and it works just fine. However, for some reason the pc won't pick up the HDD. I've tried master, slave and CS jumper options. This has led me to believe it is probably a BIOS issue or the HDD is indeed dead (haven't used it in over a year so no idea of it's state).

After fiddling around with the BIOS it still won't work. Changing the 'OnChip Sata type' to AHCI lead to pc hanging on the windows boot screen and then restarted.

Would anyone have any idea on how to fix the problem? I've enclosed the relevant BIOS pages so people can get an idea of it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

boot into your bios and set the sata mode from ahci to ide then it should work

also is the sata to ide convertor a pci card? it may need additional power from the psu... make sure there is a power cable coming from the psu to the card.

otherwise you could try one of these IT techie's cables
