Sky - Intermittent "No Satellite Signal"

    Hi,

I keep getting intermittent loss of sky signal which as always be resolved by turning off sky HD box for a few mins then turning it on again.

I trying to identify the root cause. Ive switched the cables around when signal is lost, checked cable connections, turned off/on power to LNB on installer settings - all make no difference.

Does this suggest a dish alignment/LNB connection issue/fault?

Picture can be jumping/stalling on the Peppa Pig Nick Jnr channel also which I think sometimes is followed by total loss of signal....

My 2 yr old is not impressed. turing box off and waiting a few mins is starting to be a pain.....

Slight chance some water may have got in the cable after last nights rain.

That's providing you were affected by that storm last night?

    .

A lot of thunder and lightening in atmosphere today. Perhaps it's affecting the signal.

Do you have any other satellite receivers in the house currently connected, If so are they having the same issue. If they are then it points to something common to both boxes i.e. dish/lnb which narrows down your problem.
Try going to the signal strenght screen on your sky Box
press "services, and go to "setup" and then "signal"
that will give you an idea of the signal that the boxes are recieving.
They should be fairly static and at least 3/4 strenght on both "strenght" and "quality"
If its anything other than that you should contact SKy or your local installer.

Hi, i do have a 2nd reciever and will check that one when prob reoccurs.

Everything is working as it should at this minute. Signal strenghth bar is at zero for both inputs, quality bar about half for both, locked on both.

Signal strength bar at zero but picture is fine?????????

    is it an old box?
I had an issue that sounded similar. also some of the channels would pixalate on me, a google search showed slimlar problems caused by damaged capacitors on the power board.
Looked easy enough to put in a new one so i ordered a new one from some site and stuck it in the box, fixed the problem

when you say at Zero what colour is it... if its grey then it is actually 100% but that really means you have a problem as i don't think i have ever seen signal strenght at 100% on a sky box.
ideally the strenght should be 75-80% and the quality 90-100%
the only other thing i might suggest would be a forced software update, it sometimes helps to "sort of reset the box" without doing a full system rest which means you lose any recordings.

I did a full reset recently and did lose all recordings :(.

Looking at signal strength now. Its def 0% and signal quality is less than 10%! but picture is fine??????

Input 2 strength about 40%with quality about 60%

On the othet older box which i dont use (its in another room) signal strengh is 30% for both inputs and 55% for quality

If you are getting 0/0 on one input and the picture is okay, you must be viewing through the other input.

I removed some blocking branches in the the past few weeks and now even in the worst weather I now have a rock steady 90/90 + 90/90 with just the very occasional 80. (view my recent posts)

I suggest that you get someone with a good sat meter and some experience to tweak the alignment of your dish and check the connections for water ingress.

You should set 60/60 60/60 as a minimum target.

I lost my signal 2 nights ago, have had a go and realigning the dish and this seems to be the best I can get with limited resources:

Should this be enough to get signal ?
