    Howdy Folks,

Few questions for ye, I was thinking of buying something along the lines of this Satellite Receiver, what I want to know is -

How would I receive channels? Can I connect it to my already existing Sky dish or would a standard TV aerial suffice?

Or would I have to go buy a new dish altogether?

After some googling, I'm still left unsure. All help appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

Connect it to your existing Sky satellite dish, it won't work with an aerial.

Do not buy it as it is obsolete. You should get a box that handles DVB-S2
Here is a list of channels available free using an existing sky dish and FTA box

A FTA satellite box will not give you the Irish channels without extra fittings to your satellite dish. The Irish channels are only free on a different satellite, using a different system, in a different part of the sky.
The easier way to get the Irish channels is by SaorView if your TV is compatible and you have a suitable aerial.
If your TV is not suitable, you could also use a "combo" box which merges both SaorView and satellite signals using a sky dish and a conventional aerial.

Presumably you don't have an already existing Sky box: this would still decode the free channels (needs subscription to enable recording, though).

If you want a new receiver, are only looking for UK channels & want something as close to Sky as possible in terms of user friendliness, get a Freesat branded receiver (would recommend HD).

Just connect to the Sky dish & provided everything's in working order & aligned properly, you should be fine.

I have a freesat box picking up the UK channels, what box can I get to connect to the satellite dish to pick up UK and Saorview channels?

You mean a combo? Plenty of threads on them in the terrestrial forum.

If you have a relatively recent tv, it would be worth posting the make & model, as it might have the capability to decode the Saorview signal.
