    I work from home and I am going to take a stab at basic vat returns whats the story claiming vat back on home electric bill.

    As you work form home you will be able to claim a certain portion of household bills and consequentially you will be able to claim the vat on this portion. The percentage you claim has to realistic based on the work you do from home and in context with the household in general.

    if you are using your home as an office and claiming expenses, you might have to check with the county council about paying rates, that is if it becomes a place of business
