Mobillity Work

    Hi Guys,

I hear people talking a lot about the importance of mobillity work in a training routine. I train 4-5 days a week at the moment and have never done anything from a mobillity POV. (I keep a log here)
    So my questions are

    1) What is mobillity work?
    2) How important is it in a training routine and what benefits does it provide?
    3) Is it something you do along with foam rolling and stretching.
    4) Where does it fit into your routine.

    Thanks,
    Colman

    1. Mobility work is anything down to improve you mobility, ie the ability to move freely over full range of motion.
    2. Very important imo. It can prevent injury, both chronic and acute. It can also improve performance. Pretty big benefits.
    3. It can be, depends on what you intend to do exactly. Some mobility work is good for movement prep before heavy lifting. On the other hand, some mobility work can be quite intense (for want of a better word) and would affect performance.
    4. Not sure what you mean here? I think the same answer above applies here. I'll do wall slides, shoulder dislocates, t-spine mobility along with foam rolling before a lifting workout. Sometimes (but not enough) I'll do stand along MobilityWODs at night on rest days or a few hours after a workout is im not stiff.

Edit: Just tried the very first video where you have to stay in a squat position for 10 mins, Man I struggled! My flexibility is shocking.

Lol... I remember trying that when mobilitywod was all shiny and new... agony. Tried it again a couple months ago and found it fine. If I can go from point f*cked A to point B then anyone can

So you reckon trying to do one of these videos each day is a good approach to try sort it out?

Yeah. That's actually what the guy who does the mobilitywods recommends.
Start at the first and work through them. After a few weeks you'll have an idea of where you need more work and you can start picking and choosing.
