Driver theory test

I bought the DTT cd-rom today, and I am a little bit worried. Do we really have to look over and memorise 1,358 pages before taking the test. Or are we simply supposed to learn what the signs mean? Thank you

1,358 pages? Are you sure that you are just clicking on the section for drivers of cars? There are other categories on the DVD too for motor bikes, trucks etc etc. They won't apply to you if all you want to do is get a DL to drive a car.

No, its not just a matter of you knowing the correct signs. You need to be able to answer questions about correct road positioning, speed limits, roundabouts and general rules of the road.

Nah mate, just do the test on the disc, forget about the other sections. Do it everyday for a couple of weeks until you're passing it everytime.

Use the book section of the disc for questions that keep catching you out...

You are not supposed to learn the questions. You are supposed to learn the rules of the road. The questions are a test to see if you have done this properly.

In fairness, the rules of the road are actually worth knowing imo. It's not like the OP is being asked to memorize a boat load of Peg Sayer misery guts drivel, or those endless categories of Latin verbs !

Agree with ye about known the rules of the road, but do you remember then you sat the theory test? Some of the questions are just silly :pac:
Every learner should own one of these though, great for info when your not sure about something...

I have been through to somebody in the Roads Authority and they inform me that the test involves knowing pages 1 - 845. That is a ridiculous amount of memorisation, what is the best way to learn this amount of material without forgetting it?

To be honest there are maybe 50 to 100 pages you need to learn. Other questions and rules are just test for intelligence.

q: what should you do when driving into tunnel?
a: take off sun glasses

q you are approaching traffic lights - what you do if you see light changing to amber?
a: accelerate to beat the red light
a: proceed if safe to do so
a: stop - unless unsafe to do

q when approaching rondabout - which vehicle has priority?
a: vehicle already on the roundabout
a: vehicles coming from the major road

Those are just few examples, but there are much more like this one.

I've done the theory twice and got 40/40 both times but if you honestly asked me to explain a lot of them i wouldn't be able :P a good memory is the key to passing this test. Some of the questions are silly and really if they want people to know the rules the questions and answers should be more straight forward its as if their trying to trick you in some of them I think
