Hey, I've been very addicted to the mentalist since it started. I think it's great. Just wondering does anyone else watch it. If you do who do you think red John is?

    No (s)he wouldn't.

I'm watching this on RTE (I don't really like the show) so halfway through S4 and I think it's Luther Wainwright.

Simon Baker has said (something like) that the show will drag on so long that the actors will need walking aides and we still won't know who red john is.

I'm up to date and I have no idea who it is, I have suspicions, but as we've seen before, more and more of our suspicions get ruled out throughout each season.

We will never actually know who Red John is until the final episode.

It is Jane himself...gotta be doesn't it? Or is that way too obvious?

Anyway as previous poster said...won't know until final episode if at all (probably be cancelled before the reveal).

All theories (and counters) here: http://www.whoisredjohn.com/

I still think it's Patrick Jane. Hopefully the series lasts long enough for the revelation.

I can't see that site from work, but a guess of mine was the psychic that Jane had a bit of a thing with who was kidnapped. Was she ruled out?

I think they should reveal Red John then move on to another mystery. But I suppose they don't do that because they'll probably lose all the viewers that are just watching for the Red John mystery

The story about Jane and Red John is the show, if they reveal who it is they might as well finish it.

I think it'll be revealed in the final season, whenever that will be. I'd say the writers might not have even decided yet.

It is possible that Jane could be red John.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,066 ✭✭✭Sandwlch

    Jane is Red John.
Lisbon knows this and he was stationed with her so that she could trap him and convict. Jane doesnt know that she knows. Yet. The dynamic becomes interesting in the next series when he finds out she does know. But she doesnt know he knows she knows. In the following one, she does find out he knows, and cat and mouse game continues. 3 or 4 years left in it.

    No.

They were in that ep together in Season 3 where RJ read that poem or verse or whatever it was after saving Janes life.

RJ had that plastic looking black mask on.

You sure? Could be a Fight Club type thing.

Whoever it is I hope that it makes sense when they reveal him/her and that's it's someone we've already met.

    Yep, this ep.

And remember at the end of Season 1 RJ did a runner from that abandoned house, their was a blind girl that knew his smell or something like that.

They def can't write it that jane is john, not unless they rename the series The Mentalost.

Another reason that the writers, at least, would need to know who Red John is is so they don't do something like reveal Lisbon was Red John, even though there was a scene where Lisbon was nowhere near a place Red John struck.

Thanks Stevecw...would be good if RTE gave what season it was on the programme info in the listings.
As I'm new to The Mentalist these could be any season 1 to 4!
Think I'll probably end up getting the box-set to catch up.

I thought Red John was the killer of Jane's wife and child, no?

Yes, and that's why the investigation is so personal to Jane

    The finale was brilliant

    It's Rigsby.

In a show like this, the biggest pay off comes from the villain being one of the main characters all allong and the many clues and misdirections that the viewers see's along the way. So it could be any of the main cast but my money is on him. No chance it's Lisbon or Cho.

If it's not Rigsby, outside shot at Van Pelt. Me thinks the whole "broken up about shooting my boyfriend" bit was laid on very thick and could be designed to avert suspicion. But I would still go with Rigsby.

Hey Marty! The series that ended last week on RTE 1 (Thursday nights) was Season 4.

The repeats on Tuesday nights are all part of Season 3 and are currently the earliest episodes in that season.

They repeated Season 2 late on Friday nights last year when Season 3 finished.

    Thanks for reply Icarus Wings,
think I need to start catching up from Season 1 so might give the season 3 repeats a miss for now.

I think its Van pelt (she has got the right hair color;)).
Or Van pelt is red john daughter(Jane deduce during the first season she is hiding some deep emotional trauma)
    Outside bet is Alex Jane

Anyone else still watching the mentalist . I am and was wondering does anyone have any new ideas who red John is now !

Stopped watching, will watch the reveal if their ever is one.

As mentioned earlier, they should have finished it off and moved on to another story.

    They ruined it big time.

I kind of agree . The newest season has been disappointing big time .

It was always light TV, not to be taken seriously. The Mentalist is more like murder she wrote than like the following.
I still enjoy the simple stories and the way they work rather than the Red John thing which is only a premises to keep Jane in the CBI anyway.
For what it's worth Van Pelt would be a good choice but for the fact that we have been told that Jane only met Red John once. Current season implies that Red John is a person of interest to HS which brings the trope of Gov agent into the mix.

They let the cat out of the bag there.
I knew Jane was Red John.

He going by the idea that RJ knew both the list of RJ suspects and Jane's hidden memories. The draw back is that none of RJ's proxies recognized him.
I think they are just keeping the options open. Bet RJ turns out to be someone not shown already.

Maybe update the OP with a "Spoilers" tag?

I think the obvious choice now is
Homeland Security guy, unless he's working for RJ. Of course, as someone said, Jane could have a split personality and this is how RJ knows so much about him

Oh and news for season 6 about
    cast departure

    as

    Nooooooo!
The whole point of the mentalist is so I can enjoy VanPelt while herself oggles Jane
