Will registration be available on the day?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 588 ✭✭✭t'bear

+1 on registration on the day. Its only up the road from me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 252 ✭✭Surinam

I'm a bit confused at the 120k route - is there only one food/water stop and is it the same stop as the finish and start too? If this is the case then I'm afraid that €28 is rather steep.

Yeah, I think all the food is at the same location, which is the start and finish, but you get fed each time you go through it so you get a food stop at 60k and then you get your meal at the end....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39 morann

There will be sambos, tea, coffee and fruit at the half way mark and there will be hot food and more tea/coffee at the end. This goes for each distance. The figure of 8 route means people can do whatever distance they want and they are never too far from the base at any point. The idea is too suit beginners as well as serious cyclists.

All money made is going to charity.

    www.facebook.com/events/202901299814579/

You will be able to pay on the day. Please indicate if you plan going on the Facebook page so we can at least gauge numbers.

    Thanks
    niall

Here's the 60k route. Just one climb and would be good for those who want to break the 60k mark.

    Anybody done this climb before?

Sure have, it's about 1.3K long and not too bad, I am definitely off the saddle for part of it and pushing hard. It is the climb up to the hill of Tara, you get rewarded with a nice view and a downhill on the far side.

Got it now. Went down it on the An post Tour of Meath back in 2011.

    Niall,

Could you throw up some more info about this event for instance how many you expect, will all junctions be marshalled etc.

Considering doing the event but as its new just a bit unsure what to expect.

    Rgds,

    Ck.

Yeah I may venture over. Will know more as it gets closer. 120km would be a nice 'start' to the winter wind down

We will have standing marshals at key junctions, other junctions will have clear large orange arrow signs and we will also have motor bike marshals. We are expecting about 200 cyclists, but it very much depends on how many turn out on the day as we are accepting registration on the day

Whats a 'Winter wind down? Although new to these events, I plan to cycle as much in the winter as possible (I dont want to wind down as such) but realise I will have less hours on my favorite mode of travel. I am getting the fleece lined clothes, lights, waterproofs etc, in fact I am gearing up for my winter commutes!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39 morann

Routes are marked. The route is very straight forward, all roads leading back to Trim. We have sign posts for turn offs, marshals for splits and dangerous areas and road markings are in place.

WE ARE CLOSING REGISTRATION AT 09:00 AM TOMORROW, THAT'S THE 7TH SEPTEMBER. WE WILL ACCEPT SOME REGISTRATIONS ON THE DAY BUT IT WILL DEPEND ON THE CAPACITY OF OUR CATERERS. BEST TO REGISTER IN ADVANCE OF 09:00 AM FRIDAY. IF PEOPLE DON'T HAVE A VISA OR PAYPAL ACCOUNT THEY CAN REGISTER BY EMAILING THEIR NAME, AGE CATEGORY, CI NUMBER TO NIALL@LEISURECYCLING.IE BEFORE 09:00 AM TOMORROW AND THEN PAY ON THE DAY.

All signed up for the 120, I'm a newbee so starting to question the wisdom of doing the 120Km, but whats the worst that can happen, I finish and everyone is gone home :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39 morann

Food will be include sambos/tea/coffee/water for break then curry and pasta bake for after.

The bar will also be open from 2pm for anyone that wants to watch a match

Coyne Cycles Kinnegad will provide a pit stop for the 120k during the second half.

We will have an ambulance and a mechanic and plenty of marshals.

It's a figure of 8 route so once you have done 60k you will be back at base and you can make a call on it then. If you have done anything near 70/80k you will probably be fine for the 120k. The second half is totally flat and a really nice road :). The first half has the hill of Tara

Good well run spin, set off at the front and after 20km there were 5 of us, got to the hill of Tara and a boardsie in Orwell gear stamped on the pedals, in a Contadoresque fashion (he paid me to say that), and dropped me and 2 others. His fondness for cake however let him down and when we went past the first food stop he was never to catch us!

Lovely day for it and in the end myself and a lad from Meath Tri came home first, not that its a race or anything...

    110km
    31.5kph avg

Met a few boardsies - Happygoose and 2 others.

Do you accept PayPal?;) Nice to meet you too Inquitus!

Lovely day for a cycle. Typical, the weather turns for the better at the end of the season. Meath has some shocking roads altogether and the gravel up the Hill of Tara was gnarly.

One week left, I think, of sportives then decisions, decisions for next year.

Just home now. 108.5km and ave speed of 29.7Km/h. Enjoyable day out and good weather for a change. Saw one boardsie before the start on an orange and black Felt (Inquitis maybe??) but didn't get a chance to say hi.
Decent enough pace to the food stop, which I thought came a bit soon and then I got a burst of energy at 80k and dropped my group to catch two older lads ahead (one in Ossary kit and the other on a white Canyon) and managed to stay with them until the last 10k when they pushed on.
Pleased enough with my efforts today even with a slight hangover and having to do night feeds to a 4 month old

Really enjoyed the day, ended up doing 75K after a slight detour

Well run event, but could have done with a few more signs at junctions.

Thank you for the resources. Cycling is a great sport that would give you the best thrills as you go along designated cycling trails> I personally have always wished to be able to cycle at a forest since it would be great to rush through the serene ambiance of the forest.

For its inaugural event the Leisure Loop got a lot bang on. Good group of riders and Trim GAA club being a top class facility was an excellent base. Route similar to Meath Heritage and couldn't be faulted.

Before the event I was uncertain about the figure of 8 course intersecting in Trim but it worked very well.

The food was top class and it was good to have it in a function room with seating for all with large round tables encouraging banter between participants. The curry and chips at the end was a nice touch. For next year a sign a few hundred meters up the road at the 60/110 split would be ideal. Other than that I can't fault it.

Trigermortis, we headed out together for a good hour or so after the lunch and I was in the group you left. I had a blue jersey and black focus, enjoyed the chat.

After you made the break we upped the anti with an finishing with average course speed of 29.3.

    Niall et al well done.

Disappointed I didn't get to do this. I'll be looking out for it next year though.

Great day out, sun was a big plus obviously but the whole day went without hitch, well done to the organisers.

Nice chatting to Inquitus and Velo.2010. I see on another thread you're doing the dying sow - I could regret seeing that post come next week, planned on making my audax debut next year. but I might chance the cow/sow next week.

Well done to all in leisure cycling Ireland.

    Hey,
That hour or so after the food break helped a lot as the wind was against us and it took a while to get back into the rhythm. Dunno where my energy boost came from, we turned onto that main road after catching that small group and I was on the front and when I looked behind, there was a big gap. I thought I'd fade before I caught the two guys ahead but after I did catch them the pace didn't relent.
Good talking to you anyway, might catch up on another event

Stats have jumped considerably when there is peer pressure (110K avg 29.7)

Thank you for a well organised cycle event, even the sun came out. First one of these organised cycle's and first time to ride in a group. Found it much faster than going out on my own and easier, avg 29.2, good company along the way too..

Tks again , i'll be there next year
