Kerry/W. Cork, 5 runs in July...

I seem to find a good few runs varying between 10k and 15 miles in July in the SW...

The Half on the Head - Kerry half marathon €43, Sunday 1st

    Ballinascarthy - 10km road outside Bandon €12, Friday 6th

    Killarney Maxi Marathon - 10k, half marathon and 15 miles for €20, €40 and €50, Saturday 14th

    Bere Island - 5k and 10k €20, Saturday 14th

    Glenbeigh - 5k and 10k €20, Saturday 28th.

Anyone else doing any of these? The Ballinascarthy one is hard to beat for value. I'd like to the Bere Island one too, as have done the Maxi Marathon...but might just do the Maxi again even though it's the priciest there. And Glenbeigh looks tempting, not sure if its new to the calendar, being a newbie to the sport myself...

Gonna have a crack at Killarney and Glenbeigh 10k's, target for the summer is to focus on knocking a few minutes off the time at 10k distance due to involvement in other sports until September.

Glenbeigh could be an interesting one, its the first time they've done it, not going to be flat I'd say, but I could be wrong. Whats the Killarney 10k route like, is it all through the park?

There is a good few Kerry 10k's coming up in August too!

Did Ballinascarthy last year. Hilly course, a tough enough run i thought, but well organised with great spread and atmosphere afterwards.

Glenbeigh will go up Rossbeigh mountain. It may well be the biggest hill you'll ever tackle in a 10k.

Killarney 5k and 10k races are always held in the park, as far as I know.

Ballinascarthy cancelled a.f.a.i.k. due to road damage from recent flooding/rainfall. Check before you travel.

Thats not good news, I'm familiar with that loop I think.... Please say we will be running it clockwise? If its anti-clockwise, I have tried to make it to the top without stopping and walking on a number of occasions and failed!

I'm not directly involved and only got second-hand information, so make of it what you will, but the way she described the course it would be anti-clockwise.

To be honest I'd prefer it that way; I prefer to do the steeper parts uphill rather than downhill.

    Ballinascarthy cancelled due to flooding.

    Irish summers...

Still must decide between Bere Island and Maxi Marathon. €30 difference, but crowds, petrol money getting there, distance of run all point to Killarney...

Can't find 2011 results, have forgotten how I did.

    Registration closed for Killarney.

So looks like Bere Island for me. Not chip timed. But still, it should have a novelty value anyway, and expect great scenery.

The Glenbeigh one is anti clockwise (ie up the hill by Rossbeigh).

I'm beginning to think that's why they called out the 10k challenge instead of run or fun run!

Not a fast time race but will be interesting!
