    Hi all,

Im going to be taking up one of these next year at the weekend and im just wondering which will be the better of the 2 to undertake for progression in the future?? apparently the ncef now goes all the way to level 8 bsc which would be great...but the ntc qualifies you as a personal trainer immediately??...Im already doing a degree midweek and preparing for a black belt but im very passionate about sport and fitness so want to do one so i may be qualified and work while i earn a masters/doctorate in my other discipline in the future...any and all advice appreciated:cool:

For an extra €250 (compared to the ntc) you can get the same qualifcation through Imagefit.ie with a load of add ons such as TRX, Kettlebell & 5 other add ons. I know nothing about the course but thought it would be worth your while to have a look! Do whatever course gets your foot in the door, most of your learning (once you have the basics ofcourse) will come with your own training & on the job experience! The level 8 BSC is appealing though, good luck :)

id recommend the NCEF , I dont know anything about the NTC. The NCEF is a great starter course though if you want to study on more or infact just go straight into the workplace.

thanks guys i appreciate the replys :).i think im leaning towards the ncef as it leaves more room to progress down the line i think plus its closer to home...if theres anyone in the industry (transform etc) id like to hear if any of you have anything to add..thanks again:)

Honestly? They are much of a muchness.
The content is remarkably similar and both are widley accepted by employers.
I'd really pick based on location and convenience more than anything else.

There are no stats available but I would hazard a guess based on ten years anecdotal evidence, that only 30% of graduates are in the fitness industry after two years and 10% after five.
I've said it before that an honours Junior Cert kid could pass the NCEF/NCEHS but it takes a very good business man/woman to make a living as a personal trainer.

+1 to Zamboni - they really are a starter course, I did one similar a few years back and out of the 30 that did it, i know of 5 using it now (me included).

Once finished, I focused on my strong points and an area that interested me, worked very very hard for very little money and continued my education. It will take time to build up, its not the money maker everyone on these courses seems to be delueded into believing it is. If it is really what you want, be prepared to work hard for a little money for a while after it .. or you can just slot easily into a leisure centre or chain gym and work there (not fun imho)
