Hi everyone, I'm planning on visiting my sister in New York for a couple of days at the end of August but am very tight on cash so am trying to find the cheapest route and airline... I wouldn't mind transfers or anything just want to end up in New York, or even a different place if a bus/train to NY from there would work out cheaper.. I live in Galway but can travel to any airport in Ireland.. Thanking you all in advance,

    Ampmm

No cheap way to NY. Last year I found Continental to Newark from Shannon the best route.

Is it Continental that are flying to Washington DC now? If there are cheap flights to there or Philadelphia then a boltbus from DC to NYC could be an option though to be honest the price differential would need to be significant to justify the extra journey time and I can't see that happening.

I think that the best way to check cheap flights is to keep an eye on skyscanner. They will source through various airlines for you and give you the best deal. I have used them in the past. The bad news is that the summer is such an expensive time to go to NY. I have a friend who is going next month and its costing her E860. I know you're prob keen to go now but is there anyway you could wait till later in the year ie tie it in with christmas shopping!!!!! Great deals on skyscanner at the min for dub to NY in November!:)

Aer Lingus are rip off merchants at the moment, so forget about them. KLM have some good prices at the moment, they require a connection through Amsterdam which is a bit of a pain, but they are quite cheap if you don’t mind the hassle.

Could you maybe delay your trip by a few days so that you’re travelling in September? It really is hugely cheaper, for example on KLM to New York leaving on Aug 25th and returning Sept 1st is costing €638, if you delay a week and leave on Sept 1st, return on Sept 8th, that price drops to €519.

Boston could be an option for you, the prices there on KLM are €624 Aug 25th- Sept 1st and only €416 for Sept 1st-8th. That is a great price, I really don’t think you’ll find cheaper transatlantic flights than that. Not sure how much it would cost to get from Boston to New York, so it may or may not work out cheaper to go that way.

THe end of August to go to the US is the worst time of the season this year. With an American game in the Aviva late August there will be 40,000 Americans travling to/from Dublin and with many flights booked out prices will contuine to climb.
