    Hi.

I don't know if I'm in the right place for this but I have a Acer laptop (about 4 years old) with a c drive and a d drive. I've loads of space on the d drive and none left on the c drive. I was wondering if I could merge the two hard drives together and just make on big one. They each hold 32.3 GB of storage.

    My laptops specs are:
    Acer Extensa 5620Z
Intel Pentium dual core processor T2310
    (1.46GHz, 533 MHz FSB 1MB L2 cache)
    15.4 WXGA Acer CrystalBrite LCD
Up to 358 MB Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
    2GB DDR2
    80GB HDD
    DVD-Super Multi DL
    802.11b/g WLAN

If anybody can help me it would be great.

    Thanks

Well you can but it can be a bit risky especially if it's pre win 7. If it's win 7 it's probably easier and less risky.
It would probably be easier for you to move your saved data from c: to d: such as anything in your my documents folder or your music or movie files.

All of my documents and movies and pictures and music is on my D drive. I can't move anything else cos it won't let me. And if I install anything it automatically goes to the C drive and I can't change that.

there are a few things you could do..

    1. buy an external hdd and copy all your data to that (you should have at least one backup of your data before editing partitions anyway just in case things go wrong)
    2. extend the C: partition or merge C: and D: together (since your 'My Documents' folder seems to be installed on your D: drive if you merge the partitions you'll probably need to configure that folders location to C: afterwards unless it's done automatically.. the instructions to do that vary between OS's ie, whether you have XP, VISTA, or W7 installed)

ps.. its possible to clear up some space in windows by going to START>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Cleanup and selecting the C: drive.

EaseUS partition manager should help you accomplish the steps above, you can grab a free version here http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm / direct download link of the home edition : http://download.cnet.com/EaseUS-Partition-Master-Home-Edition/3000-2248_4-10863346.html

    merge adjacent partitions into one
    Extend system partition

although things will probably run smoothly, you run the risk of losing your data unless you have a backup.

    hope that helps

You can choose where to install just about every piece of software at the installation stage.

Also delete all temporary internet files and set your browser to never keep history that will save space on your C: drive.

If you use a pagefile you can set that to be on your other partition.
