    5.15 Brighton

    Tawseef 40/1

Only playing small stakes as there are definitely a few concerns about Roy Brotherton's 4 year old but I definitely think he's overpriced. Tawseef comes here on the back of a break from March which I am hoping will have freshened him up after a largely fruitless campaign on the AW where the best he did on 7 starts since last October was finish 3rd. However, he did shape well on a few occasions and I don't think that he's completely regressive. There are definitely a few things that stand out to me today. Firstly, the return to Brighton and also the booking of George Baker. Tawseef made his handicap debut off a mark of 56 over C+D last October when running an excellent race to finish an unlucky 2L beaten 3rd. That day he met some trouble in running and had to be switched quite wide before he came with his run and I think he definitely would have finished closer with a clear run. The form of that race is strong with the winner Methayel winning on his next subsequent start and it was a very promising effort. Today he returns to Brighton's unique track off a 4lb lower mark and I find it very interesting that this is the place he returns to for his next turf start. Trainer Roy Brotherton has only had one runner here in the past 5 seasons (Tawseef) and I think its significant that the trainer make a 6hr 30 minutes round trip with just one runner. George Baker takes the ride today and is a very eye catching booking. Baker and Brotheron teamed up only once last year which resulted in a win so I think this is an indication that a big run is expected. Although favourite Toga Tiger is going to be extremely difficult to beat, Tawseef is clearly well weighted and handles the track well. If the 3 month break has freshened him up and rejuvenated this 4 year old than I foresee a big run at a massive price.

    4.00 Beverley - Loyal Master 7/1

2 previous runs at Beverley and 2 wins to boot. Is now at a mark of 70 but has won off 72 so it looks at a decent mark. Hasn't been much good lately but Im hoping a return to this track will see him bounce back to some sort of form.

I've also taken a bit of the 25/1 W/O favourite on PP. Means effectively 4 places if favourite finishes in top 3 and also counts as a winner if he finishes 2nd to the fav who should be very hard to beat.

9.15 newton abbot. The Gordon Elliott trained Raajih is the subject of a big gamble here. 5/2 earlier in the morning but now as short as 8/11. Another point to note is that the jockey (annie bowles) is the trainers fiance so its possible this race may have been a target for a while. Nothing in its form to suggest he'll win but the market move makes him very interesting.

Katie Walsh takes up the ride as Annie hurt herself on the gallops yesterday.

Lost any chance it had early after getting bumped badly, doubt it gets anywhere near the winner anyway. First 2 home well clear of the rest.

bad luck for Annie but there's no doubt Katie is the most talented jockey in the field.

I'm rich! Serious though good picking. That race, once you struck out the favourite looked a much of a muchness for the other 15.

Ran a cracker to finish 4th. Thankfully there was no non runners so e/w bit of the bet landed.

    9.05 Newbury

    Royal Envoy 40/1

I think Paul Howling's 9 year old is a very interesting contender tonight. This represents this geldings first run over 5f since 2008 and his first turf start since 2009 and although this could definitely be a no show he's certainly worth a play in my books. Royal Envoy has been campaigned on the AW for his last 31 starts but his last few turf efforts were off significantly higher marks. Barring his runs on heavy ground, he seemed to always run pretty well on turf and I'm pretty surprised it has been this long since he's gone back on the turf, with his last run coming off a mark of 70. Back to his current form, he's been in pretty good order this year winning twice off slightly lower marks but he did finish a good 2nd off a 1lb higher mark so I certainly don't think he's too badly handicapped. Michael Stainton takes the ride and has many times before and trainer Paul Howling is in decent enough form at present. Royal Envoy's first 3 starts in his career were at Newbury where he ran well which is a bonus and although not the likeliest type your ever going to find on paper I certainly think he merits a bet at a big price.

Royal Envoy didn't have the pace to go 5f. Ah well
