Is it just me or is it becoming more common that ya see cars in traffic at idle theyre grand and go to take off and they leave plumes of blue smoke, obviously the engine is knackerd and burning oil. Dont ever really remember seeing it pre R word.

Suppose people are overlooking basic oil and filter changes.

I remarked on this recently in Dundalk.

Three cars did just this in front of me. I think it could be the fact that people are skint and tight at the best of times when it comes to servicing cars that they are just letting it run thinking "sure, twill be grand"

Yes that's all too common these days. Back to the 70s with all these engine woes!

I misread the title and thought it said "Pope being electric" as in an elec car for the pope

Yep, noticing it a lot to. Especially with jeeps. Seem to be a few people around that bought big in the boom and can't afford to maintain or shift these days.

Ha, I'm an atheist, and even i knew what he was referring to.

He's referring to the black smoke that is released over the Vatican when a new pope is elected, for those unawares.

When they elect the pope, the smoke is white not black!! Discoloured or black smoke arises on a vote where there is no election. Straw is burned with the ballot papers to produce black smoke.

See, an agnostic would have got that 100% right. That's fundamentalism for ya. ;)

Taking it back onto Motors, what would you have to burn in an engine to get white smoke? That could be interesting....
