What Colour Skirting Boards?

Hi - I was hoping someone with an eye for this sort of thing could help me.

At the moment in the hall & living room we have laminate flooring which is light enough and has a reddish shade to it. The skirting boards are varnished and match the colour of the floor.

We're redecorating soon; we'll be going for a different colour floor - probably a darker colour like walnut or oak. In the hopes of saving some money I was hoping to re-use the same skirting.

If I was to remove the skirting boards and sand them down would they look completely out of place if I painted them white or cream?

Or should I go with a darker colour that blends in well with the new floor??

    Thanks in advance!

Personally, I have painted my skirting boards off-white/cream. But my walls are also very light coloured.
What colours are your doors and frames ?
