Turning water back on at mains

HI, I am moving into a house in a few weks that has been vacant for 8 odd months. The water was turned off at the mains ( under cover outside the front door ) Is there anything i should do when turning it back on, my fear is that the pipes may be damaged from being dry all winter and when i turn the water on they may burts

HI,
