I must do something about the brightness on my laptop screen because I suddenly have tears in my eyes.

That picture with the three of them all snoozing on the couch; they look so comfortable and relaxed and safe. I mean, look at her all stretched out like that. I think that's so beautiful. What fantastic news. So so delighted!!

Well done Jimmy Bottlehead! Now let's sort out your diet of chocolate, chocolate biscuits, Oreos and fizzy drinks. ;) Glad to see you have some faults!

I was just going to say I wondered if it was the doggies or Jimmy had the "sugar" issue :D

Seriously though, fair play to you Jimmy. She looks so content (as do they all!)

Very often this forum can get bogged down in "this is the right way and this is the wrong way" but what you have done is the right way to be a human being as far as I am concerned!

As I have said before its an amazing thing you've done and I am delighted you popped in to let us know!

    Good vibes for you :D

Jimmy you've just made my day. I read the first page of the thread and was in tears and was frantically going to the end to find out what happened! And then saw those beautiful pics you posted. Well done, I only wish there were more people like you - the world would be a better place, though it's a better place anyway with you in it!!

Just to update you guys, Jake hasn't been well lately. Since Christmas time, her co-ordination has been off, and she won't turn her neck to the right. She tends to bump into things on that side too.

Really hoping she recovers. The vet can't figure it out yet, but she's on her third round of antibiotics and steroids to rule out an ear infection or a mite attacking a nerve. If that's not it, it'll be x-ray and then maybe MRI to see if it's neurological :(

Not sure why I'm updating really, but I guess I needed somewhere to vent.

Sorry to hear that and hope all goes well. Do you know if they've ruled out canine peripheral vestibular syndrome?

Often wondered if you kept her or not. Vestibular disease could be a possibility. I can't say I know alot about it or how its treated but I know it gives symptoms similar to a stroke.

    Thank you so much.

Jake moved down to my parents in Sligo about 18 months ago or so, so she's been so happy down there with an entire countryside to roam and play in, and she gets spoiled by my own family home as well as my grandparents and uncle & aunt who live a minute or so away.

My father has been taking her to the vet so I've asked him to suggest that to the vet as a possibility if it hasn't been considered yet.

Afaik, it's not something that every vet would consider straight off. Sounds like she has a great life. Hope she will be ok!

Ah jayney op, sorry to hear she's not well :(
Vestibular disease is *usually* accompanied by repetitive circling usually to one side, and they have a distinctive flicking of their eyes from side to side which they can't control. So hopefully that's not what it is, though it does sound neurological/nerve related. Will keep everything crossed for her :)

    Good news!! :D:D

Talked to my dad today and he said the vet independently came to the suspicion it IS vestibular disease (great call, OldNotWise, Ryan1 and DBB!) which means its treatable.

She has been given two more days worth of steroids but she's showing signs of improvement.

    I'm SO happy :)

Lol, don't give me any credit, I cast doubt on it being vestibular disease as she wasn't showing the really classic signs!
Glad to hear there's a good prognosis for her now :)

Brilliant news!! I often think of Jake roaming the wilds of Sligo, and really happy to hear she'll be OK.
