Looking to get a mk4 sat nav, display and maybe a radio module from an e46 3 series, not going to be common over here but if there's a breaker who specialises in Beemers I might have a hope!

I've never seen a make specific breakers; maybe just ring around all the breakers near you to see if they have the bits?

Do you really want to bother with a MK system? Why not a Dynavin?

There was a full kit on Donedeal for €600 recently IIRC.
They used to be mad money but have dropped in recent years due to demand fading out and also the TV function wont work anymore after the digital switchover.

a better option is the Dynavin retrofits available from Pro-Parts in Blanchardstown.

I've used MACE Auto Centre, Knockmitten Lane (just off Kileen Road before and found them pretty good and helpful. They specialise in BMW.

I know Dynavin works with the e46 HK setup, but I'm not sure it'll work with the Rover setup. Also, I was hoping the mk4 screen+satnav would work out a lot cheaper than €700!

No the screen would not fit the 3 series.
The price of this kit is interresting, but there is no loom. Which runs at around 100-200 euro on eBay or the likes.

OP, not only you need the screen, the loom, the gps computer, etc you would also need to take your entire car upside down. Carpet, seats. Not a fun job.

The Dynavin is not perfect but that is the best after market solution in terms of look and feel and it packs much better features than the OEM MK system.

Also why are you referring to Range Rover parts? Did you buy some already?

I paid €700 for my 16:9 and MK4 from Lithuania, demand will always be high for these pieces I reckon.

Rover, not Range Rover. The Harman Kardon setup in the E46 is pretty much interchangeable with the HK setup on the Rover 75, the screens, satnavs and radio tuners are all interchangeable with no changes. To upgrade from the Rover HK setup to the mk4 widescreen is pretty much plug and play whereas going aftermarket requires a new amp(and maybe a new sub) and new cabling from the boot to the front of the car.

Oh ok so you have a Rover and you want BMW MK parts...
If your car already has MK then yes it is a simple ugrade, but that has nothing to do with HK.

If your car does not have the MK system then an aftermarket solution is easy to install and does not need new cabling.
Most aftermarket radio come with built in amp, so unless you really want an advanced sound system, it is going to be an easy install.

Also are you sure HK is compatible with Dynavin and the likes, last time I checked it was not, but then that was last year when I checked and I am getting rusty at those chinese radios...

    Yes it does.

BMW and Rover headunits on Harman Kardon cars of that era have a separate amplifier in the boot (at least in the Rover) that powers the sub and parcel shelf speakers. If you replace it with an aftermarket HU you lose the sub+parcel shelf speakers.

According to Dynavins website it works with HK systems on the E46, but I have no idea if it does on Rover's and I don't particularly fancy being the guinea pig.

Sorry mate but the HK system is just a set of high end speakers along with the amp.
You can run the MK system without HK. Maybe they came together in Rover cars, but it is independent from the MK system.

I know HK came with its own amp, but I assumed you did not have HK or MK already and were looking for parts.

If your car does not have any of these already that is going to cost you. But dont get me wrong thats a good system, just the MK system is seriouslh outdatex, even with the latest maps. There is much better out there in terms of Nav system alone, iGO, Sygic for example.

Let us know how do you get on.

Border Motor Works in Strabane might be an option too
