Okay, so just shutdown my new laptop and have gotten up to 16% after 20 minutes with "Configuring Windows Features", what should I do? Restart my machine or let it go through the night?

Stopping it could do quite a bit of damage, you can never stop things like that without a risk.

I guess. Don't want to break a new machine.

It wont actually break it, it could cause issues with windows which would preventing the laptop starting. Just as a basic rule if you cant turn the computer off properly, dont.

    Just to re-iterate
Be patient and wait, and keep waiting.
plug it in and leave it overnight.
Had that happen once to my parents laptop, seems to get nowehere, until you just leave it to do it's thing. Running fine by the next morning

Its a Windows update or updates, possibly a service pack since its taking so long, just don't power it off before it finishes, I've seen many machines needing a re-format/repair install as they just shut it down forcefully midway or laptop battery went during the update. Best plugin and let it do its job :)
