Problem With Streaming Video

I could use some help as I'm about to tear out my hair..

Built a PC a few days ago and everything is running brilliantly... except streaming video and audio. It's really odd. YouTube, Vimeo and all that take ages to load up. The buffer goes for about 5 or 10 seconds, then stops. Shouldn't have to deal with that on 30mb broadband. Speedtest and all that seems to agree.

The weirdest part is that BBC 6 Music won't load up at all?? I just get the "loading" text forever. I checked on my girlfriend's laptop and it works fine there>??!

    ARGH!!! Please help!!

    Did you try dif Browser?

Yeah, sorry should have said. Tried Firefox and Chrome and same prob with both. I just tried IE now too (*shudder*) and same thing. Doesn't load up.

Running an i7 3820 with 16gb of RAM and a GTX 570 and BBC 6 Music won't load at all! Vimeo and YouTube are loading incredibly slowly - and my girlfriend is loading them fine on her 4gb dual processor laptop

Wireless or ethernet? If wireless, plug in a cable, disable wireless and try again.

It's not wireless. Plugged in. I already reset the modem a few times. No joy.

Could it be a firewall issue? Using bitdefender, but fairly new to it. Don't really know how to add an exceptioN?

Actually, I don't think that could be it. I disabled the firewall and still no luck...

Done a couple of times now. It's really driving me nuts. Is there anything I can do around upping the buffer size or anything like that? I don't know why 6 Music won't load at all. It's having trouble detecting media or something?

Could be unrelated but hows your pingtest looking?

I'm trying to isolate the problem: found a stream for 6 music is available on iTunes. It works fine for about 30 seconds (maybe less), but then goes to "Rebuffer" and gets stuck infinitely...

Vimeo and YouTube are the same as ever. Very slow to load. It starts off well, then gets stuck at about 5 or 10 seconds and takes forever to load/buffer the rest.

Is there perhaps an issue with the buffer getting to my RAM/disk (not 100% how it works under the hood)??

And it works well on every other device in the house?

I don't really know much about ping. Any ideas what the problem could be?

Unless your girlfriends laptop shows a much better ping test i doubt it's the problem,
    No harm in checking though

I unchecked the "use hardware acceleration" box in flash settings and seems to have helped Vimeo and YouTube out a bit, but still no joy on the whole BBC 6 Music thing.

If that's your ping while plugged in something is wrong (unless you have a torrent running). Do a pingtest on your girlfriends to compare. It should be closer to 30ms

Ok... all of a sudden my ping is the following:
    65225299.png

Not sure how reliable Pingtest is, cos just afterwards my ping was this:
    65225434.png

And a third test for an average is:
    65225500.png

    The laptop's ping is:
    65225976.png

Not downloading anything, no torrents running or anything else. Just the one computer for each ping test and each video loading when i'm trying them out

each video loading when i'm trying them out

That's possibly what skewed your original result, you test ping with nothing happening.

No. I worded that wrongly! I mean for each ping test I didn't have anything running. And when I was running videos and having problems with them buffering, it was just the video running nothing else.

The one that's really confusing me is 6 music not loading AT ALL!?

For the record, my wired connection goes from my PC to my modem which is plugged into the wall. Could be causing the problem perhaps?

When I got home from work today everything was ridiculously slow at loading (streaming videos and audio I mean), so I reset the modem and plugged into a different slot in the back. Vimeo and Youtube load fine now (at the moment anyways, but I'm not 100% confident it'll stay like that yet) and I have 6 Music running on a stream in iTunes that is working fine now (it used to play about 20 seconds and then go into an infinite "Rebuffering Stream").

The website flash version of 6 Music still doesn't load for me, which makes me think it's a different issue altogether.

And just as I was typing this iTunes goes into another damn "Rebuffering Stream"... Talk about counting your chickens...

    Back to the drawing board.

Lo and behold! Suddenly (without doing anything whatsoever!!) BBC 6 Music works again from their website!?

Couldn't have been a problem on their side as it was working on the laptop? Hopefully it stays fixed. Youtube and Vimeo working well now too. Will test something a bit heavier like Netflix to be sure.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions everybody!
