DOE cert date?

    Hi,

My jeep was tested in January this year, not by me, I bought it two months ago. The date of the test is on the cert, January 2012.

I need to tax it before the end of the month, is that cert valid to tax it?

When I rang the tax office, the lady told me I need to get it tested, but my boos's jeep is tested in August and he taxes it in December for the year, ie the date is August 2011, but its taxed in Dec 11 for the year.

I understand for insurance purposes etc it will need to be tested yearly but dont fancy forking out for a test now when I don't have to until January or am I missing something?

I posted this in motors forum Friday abnd got no replies, so I said I'd try again.

    Thanks in advance.

In theory you can tax with a DOE cert with one day left on it, as long as it's valid on the day. Yours still has 6 months to run so you shouldn't have a problem.

Do you have the CRW? If its only the DOE cert that you currently posess, then you need to go to the tax office to get a Certificate of RoadWorthyness (costs about €6-8). You have to have a valid CRW in order to tax a commercial vehicle. Its possible that if the vehicle was tested in January, and the tax is only due to expire now, that the previous owner didn't bother getting the CRW.

Or you could have the CRW and what I've posted above is no use at all to you :pac:
