I have a friend from Canada coming to Ireland for a shortish visit Wed 25th July thru Mon 30th July. We're both decent enough golfers (at times), off 10 & 7 handicaps, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to some decent, but not overly expensive, golf courses we could play on our travels from Dublin (via Galway, via Clare) to Kerry?

Any help would be most appreciated as I'm not at all knowledgeable on courses outside of Leinster.

    Thanks!

Dromoland in Clare is well worth a visit and literally 2 minutes off the motorway on the way from Galway to Limerick (about 10 minutes past Ennis).

Portumna is also a fabulous course in Galway.

Played Dooks in the wind and the rain. An experience I never want to repeat.

Probably the toughest course in poor conditions ive ever stepped foot on

Dooks is spectacular - matches the Old Head for scenery.

You've obviously never played Waterville, Ballybunion (old and new) or Tralee to name but a few, in trying conditions then, because in comparison Dooks is a walk in the park.

Pretty much +1 for all of the above and all would be affordable. I'd also suggest a couple of courses en route - Rathcore and New Forest.

Take a look at my Flickr page and you'll find pics of all the above.

Have played Ballybunion new in poor conditions, and let me tell you Dooks was by no means a walk in the park. We had a comp in Dooks (25 approx) and the winning score was 32 points.
Beautiful course, but a proper challenge.

Played it last week, was in excellent condition, bit soggy in a couple of places on the walks from green to next tee but they were the only wet patches
