Waiting to see what the draw bias is for the first couple of races but if it suits low numbers like I think it will then I'll be all over Maarek at 14s tomorrow. Put him up last time out when landing a competitive handicap at Newmarket on Guineas weekend when scoring under off a mark of 102. He's been raised to a mark of 108 and he's going to face a monumental effort under top weight of 9-10 in this incredibly competitive 29 runner handicap. His last two wins have been under 10 stone and 9-8 so he has no problems carrying huge weights. Ground conditions will be ideal (moreso than the last day) and if the draw proves to be fine after the first few races today I'm going to have a decent chunk on him as he's definitely pattern class. Bigger write up to come in due course

All systems go for Maarek. Write up to come tomorrow

only one for me tomorrow is Overturn in the last.
his Chester form was given a nice boost by Gulf Of Naples running a close 4th in the GC yesrerday.

and you'll all think I'm crazy, but I'm laying Black Caviar at 1/4

................ but I'm laying Black Caviar at 1/4

I reckon she'll win but most 1/4s are worth laying and this one is no different.
I just can't see her losing if she finishes the race if you know what I mean.

    16:25 Ascot, Wokingham Stakes

Waffle is one I’ve supported a good few times in the past. He was a great second in this last year of this mark and although I’m a bit disappointed in his price now at 16/1, he still has a hell of a lot in his favour. 6 Furlongs at Ascot on Soft Ground is just about perfect for him and he looks to have a great chance tomorrow. I’ll keep it to win only as I’d prefer a bigger price with 5 places to get interested in the EW bet.

    1 Point win 16/1 Totesport & Betfred

Dungannon looks a little underestimated here. He won a very good race here last year in the Shergar cup series on good-soft of only 2 lbs lower. He has a decent amount of form on softer ground and is drawn low which could be an advantage. He has had only one poor race this year but I’d imagine that today was more his target considering his very good course record. 33/1 with 5 places looks great value.

    1 Point EW 33/1 5 Places Various

    15:45 Ascot, Diamond Jubilee Stakes

There is no point opposing the favourite here so im going to ignore her and hope she wins by a furlong. I’m going to go for a bit of value in the W/O market. Genki is sure to love the soft ground has performed well in Group 1’s on soft ground before. He will more than likely be ridden for a place and hopefully will pick up the pieces left from some of the more fancied horses taking on the Fav here. 20/1 with bet365 EW w/o the fav looks great value.

    1pt EW 20/1 Bet265 w/o Fav.

    5:35 Ascot Queen Alexandra Stakes

Swingkeel last year’s winner looks a big price on Betfair considering he has the same conditions as last year. This is a stronger race with Overturn and Simenon, but the softer ground really shouldn’t suit overturn and the other fav has already ran this week. In my eyes Swingkeel looks the 3rd most likely winner in this field and that makes him value. His first run this year can be ignored as we can be sure that today was his target.

    1 Point win 20 Betfair

    2:25 Ayr

Astrophysical Jet just has to get back to form at some, stage and considering she ran well enough last time out and was punted heavily before the off maybe signifies that a win could be imminent. She is 16/1 for this race and if she is one the way back at all that would seem a decent price.

    1point win 16/1 Various

not crazy though. I mean yeah she's a beast and you may well look like a donkey tomorrow. On the flip side she's drawn widest, it's the softest ground she has raced on, first time racing in England, 30 hours on her feet on the plane, 48 hours in quarantine..........there's so many variables with BC. She may well piss in but unlike Frankel there are some questions to be answered. The opposition isn't great though Freddie Head isnt sending 1 over for the views of the Royal Box either. Probably would be smart to lay BC and back Freddies runner e/w.

Genuinely don't think you can read anything into the GC form though. Run at an absolute crawl, in the ground and from the front they were never going to be able to beat Gulf of Naples by far. Out and out stayers can't quicken past a horse as good as Gulf of Naples off that steady a pace. Overturn you know will force a good pace, which will leave him vulnerable near the finish. I wouldn't be more (or less) confident with him based on the GC, draw a line through that race.

    1.2 on Betfair now

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 713 ✭✭✭newuser89

Effie b for me in the first at 20/1 with William Buick on board
Horse is stepping up from 5f to 7f
Which should be in its favour as it seemed to get outpaced in rear in his last race which was also listed before staying on into 3rd
Buick is in fine form himself and the trainer has 5 of his in the race which is quite strange
And only two of them have raced in this class, the other being chilworth icon.
But he's top weight meaning he gives Effie b 8 pounds.

    1.2 on Betfair now

It's at a price to lay but I think the best bet is to sit and watch it.

It's a very weak race for a group 1. I don't think Black Cavier will have to be at her best to win it.

Quest For Peace in the Hardwicke at 3.05 could run a big race at a big price. I wouldn't expect him to win it as there are so many potentially really top horses in it, like Sea Moon and Memphis Tennesse. Quest For Peace has already won at Ascot on his only run there and likes the soft ground. I think most of the fancied horses in the race are overrated.

I hope she trounces the field, we haven't seen a really top class sprinter for a few years..

Would really love to see her blitz the field, win by 15l, set a course record, beat all furlong sector times known to man and come out of the race with a 141 rating just to shut Carson up with the sh*t he was talking about Frankel vs. Black Cavier.

    16:25 Ascot, 23 Jun 2012 Wokingham Stakes

I’m going to add one more real longshot in this race. Having a look at Ascot form from last year I noticed Joe Packet running well here in the Challenge Cup, when finishing 5th. He looked for all the world as if he didn’t really stay the 7 and the 6 furlongs here might just suit. He is a huge price on Betfair and it looks worth a min bet. In addition he is back here after a decent break and he has won from a similar break before.

    ½ Point win 140 Betfair ½ Point Place 24

No more for this race i promiseredface.gif

    Thoughts on the hardwicke everyone?

    Memphis tennesse for me

I'm leaning towards Red Cadeaux at the prices but not tempted to have a bet. Aiken will be very interesting and possibly an Arc candidate if he wins here. backed from 89 to 59 on Betfair for that but then Nathaniel is at 20s for the same stable.

    Looking forward to watching

Testosterone, will like the distance and ground, not disgraced in a group 1 coming 2nd, has been off the track for a while but trainer and jockey combo makes it good value @ 20s, well for me it does.

Changed my mind just before the off and went with Dunaden, If ever there was an unlucky horse.

That Jockey was very close to having to stay in England for fear of his life

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,998 ✭✭✭Shane732

He never properly went for her at all and eases up! Jesu*!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,641 ✭✭✭gscully

Don't think any action would be taken if that jockey was hit a few times too many with a whip. Arrogance nearly cost her the race.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,669 ✭✭✭Colonel Sanders

Did she actually have that much in hand at the end (even allowing for the jockey easing her)

    I feel somewhat underwhelmed tbh.....

Was tempted to lay her small at under 1.2 but when I opened Betfair she was 1.26

the jockey should take no credit for that win....the horse got him over the line....jockey should be warned about his actions after nearly costing black caviar the win.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,173 ✭✭✭hucklebuck

Was disappointed with that, I was hoping they would let her open up. It was so quiet after the race.

If I was Moody I would stick someone else up for her next race.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,173 ✭✭✭hucklebuck

Jockey just gave her a handy ride and eased her in the last few yards and nearly got chinned, won a short head

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,838 ✭✭✭Nulty

Well.....That was about as exciting a race as we could have hoped for.....

Will he keep her in England for the July Cup?

The jockey never really went for her. He gave her a couple of small smacks but nothing of any consequence at all.

The horse got the jockey over the line.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,886 ✭✭✭MoscowFlyer

There is no way he thought he was passed the finish line. He just got insanely cocky and it nearly cost him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,838 ✭✭✭Nulty

They won't be staying for the July Cup I don't think. They'll be getting out of Dodge.

It'll be an interesting call. Assuming the longer distance horses drop out of the July Cup then she'll only have to beat the same again. Assuming she'll get a proper ride the next day she would win the July Cup.

Did you just hear Carson - there's a horse in Newmarket who won't be that worried.

I'd love to shoot that man.
