With upc digital cable the supplied set top box should work with ANY TV which has SCART (or HDMI if it has HDMI out) regardless of what the TV's tuner can do .

Its of little benefit if the TV could receive DVB-C on its own tuner.
AFAIK only RTE1 (and maybe one or 2 more TV channels) and the radio channels are unencrypted on upc digital cable, so if the TV actually had DVB-C working that is all you would get via the DVB-C tuner on it as well as the analogue cable channels.

You need a supported country in the country selection.
Check in the owners manual which countries are supported for cable.

OP, the DVB-C (cable) functionality is in the UPC box, all you do is plug the UPC box into the TV via the supplied SCART or HDMI, the setup menus aren't relevant, except to get the right language for onscreen options.

And if he didn't get a HD box he can watch RTE2HD only via his lcd.
    Btw RTE2HD is not encrypted.

Are you running the UPC co-ax straight into the TV?

Sure or where should the 17 analog stations are coming from?

What about the analogues now? is the sound working on analogues with that change as Germany analogue TV audio is +5.5MHz (not +6MHz - System I - as here and the UK).

You do realise that you're supposed to connect the co-ax cable into the NTL/UPC box and then connect that box to the TV via either SCART or HDMI cable? That's the only way you're going to get the cable TV stations like BBC3/4, ITV2/3/4 etc.

I can't understand why you were mucking about with cable and country settings on the TV. You don't need to go near those setting because if your TV signal is via cable, the signal is sent direct from the cable box to the TV and bypasses the TV tuner.

If you connected the cable direct to the TV because the new TV has no SCART socket then you need to ask UPC for an upgrade, either to a HD box (which has only HDMI) or to a non-HD box (which nowadays have both HDMI and SCART).

This matter is resolved Coylemj!! I never said i connected the actual cable straight into the tv.Scart from ntl set top box into scart in new tv.When setting up the new tv there was no digi cable selection on the drop down menu only atv and satellite hence my reason for changing the country.Only scart out of ntl box no HDMI anyway its sorted now.
    :)
on my initial post i didnt clearly explain myself but all is cool

The best box to have is a HD capable one. This way you can connect to your TV with HDMI cable and view RTE2 HD for free with basic package. Generally UPC will not replace any old box that is working unless you upgrade your package or complain. If you have the basic package and complain they may still replace it with a non HD box. To guarantee a Hd box you need the HD package but haggle like you don't every watch TV and you have FreeSat and Saorview already and they might give you a good deal. The best deals are always after you have actually left and they want you back.

If you want to watch HD you need a 40" + size TV and need to sit close to notice any difference.
