Heard this morning that Barry Pender, Ford Dealers in Kilkenny had closed down.
It was confirmed on Kilkenny Local radio at 1:00 PM. Not sure how many jobs involved but it was a big garage.

They are a very big name in Ford around the south east. Sad to see them go and a big surprise. They didn't really spend a fortune on showrooms either I'd say.

Heard the same today when I was in another ford dealers. Quite surprised too.

Some shock, I park at their dealers every day when at work, and today I pulled in and...no stock!

No warning yesterday, here one day, gone the next.

Not surprised at all...we ended up going to ford in Carlow for a new car earlier this year...penders weren't interested in selling in the end to us!

Back in the day,Barry Pender sold me a Transit through Ford Credit.Niavely,I thought that there would be a standard interest rate.Turns out he stitched my charging over 20%.
I won't be shedding any tears.

Did he trick you into buying it? Or was it a case you didn't understand what was going on?

As with a lot of credit deals with garages,there was no mention of APR or anything like that,just an assurance that they would sort out a good deal for me.
It was only when I sat down a few weeks later,and got out my calculator,that I realised how badly I was overcharged on the finance.

So you didnt read the fineprint before signig the credit agreement, and somehow its someone elses fault because...?

They should have been upfront with the costs...not be like Ryanair..

Penders had been known to be more expensive than anyone else..even with 2nd hand stock..

But they are. Even at the simplest level they say "it'll cost you X per month over 60 months". You could do the maths quickly in your head and get a fairly accurate figure.

Well obviously they should have said the interest rate they were given..which obviously they didn't...

Bit late coming on now crying about them "stiching" you up...maybe you should have done something about it if you thought you were ripped off..decent garage..shame you feel the need to tarnish their good name..

I did ring Mr Pender back saying that he must have made a mistake with the credit form because it was more expensive than my credit card.
Mr Pender confirmed to me that there had been no mistake and that was the interest rate he was charging me.
I was ,as I have already said,guilty of naivety.Mr Barry Pender(for it was the man himself I dealt with) knew exactly what he was doing.

It seems they have re-opened under the name "Kilkenny Car Complex" and are not affiliated with any particular car brand. Not sure if it's under different management or not.

Kilkenny Car Complex are several different companies come together under one "roof" Kilkenny Vehicle Repairs are running the service garage. Barry Pender is selling second hand cars, there will be a body shop there and possible rental cars. KVR are already up and running. I believe Barry is still selling Ford parts that were in stock. There was no value in the auction at all as per usual with these kind of events. Stuff made close on retail money.

With most of these auctions you get people who were never at an auction and they pay over the odds for stuff. Some stuff was a ok deal but nothing was sold for unbelievably low money. I thought most of the vans sold for high enough money. Anyway pender still owns the garage and has re opened it to sell secondhand cars just not as a dealer. So it suits him as the auction got rid of the crap older petrol cars that had sat in the garage for months.

Had a quick nose around this place last week when I was getting my car washed. The prices were unbelievable for some of the rubbish cars on offer. The newer ones were not great value either.

You could easily buy off most actual main dealers for less. Anything I've ever seen advertised was seriously expensive. And most of the cars they have don't seem the desirable all basic spec unless it's changed its a while since I looked at what they have tbh.
