Co. Meath - will NI channels be received after ASO?

I apologise if this has been asked and answered already.

I can't seem to get a straight answer to this question.

Will houses in Co. Meath, that currently receive the Irish stations and UK stations from NI through their rooftop aeriels, continue to receive the NI stations after the ASO?

I assume that if you buy a new digital TV now, capable of receiving the MPEG4 Saorview DTT signal, then the same TV will receive the Freeview DTT signal from NI?

    Thanks.

At ASO/DSO you will almost certainly get UK freeview from NI with your current aerial setup (signals increased in power from NI) and a MPEG4 TV/PVR/STB will pick up not only Saorview but Freeview channels including Freeview HD multiplex from NI.
Here in NI I can pick up both Freeview and Saorview with a Sony Freeview HD PVR. This is despite Saorview signal being nulled somewhat to the north. So after DSO on both sides of the border both systems should be freely available to quite a no. of viewers.

The TV/Box MUST have a DVB-T2 tuner to get the FreeView HD channels. SaorView uses DVB-T which will only display SaorView and FreeView SD if you are within range of a UK/NI transmitter.

BBC teletext should still have the aerial test on P.284, should provide an indication if your current setup will be up to the job.

Tried in kells recently in house that gets all the analogue uk channels on what looks like a bloody big aerial to me and no joy with freeview but did pick up a couple of saorview transmitters.

I've got a Sony TV which can pick up Saorview. After the DSO I should be within range for the UK stations. How will they be displayed on my TV? Will they be sequentially after my Irish stations on the 'Digital' button?

Depends on which country you use to setup the TV, normally out of country/region channels are placed in the 800's.

If you use Ireland the UK channels may be placed in the 800's, If you use UK as the country the Irish channels may be placed in the 800's. If this is the case the TV should allow you move the channels to a different location.

Unfortunately my Sony PVR doesn't allow me to reorder channels and Saorview ones are the wrong way round i.e. RTE 1 comes last. I guess most Sony TVs do permit reordering.

I'd say the chances will be much greater after DSO and full power up north, so I'd still be hopefull of something.

the signal now from divis in belfast is now stronger and should work in areas were analogue tv reception was really bad / ghost reception. i recommend you use a log periodic aerial and a wide band mast head amp try this first and if setup correctly you will be suprised as to what you will receive with this aerial . highly rated as i fit these everyday .

    Hi,

A question: With log periodics and amps did you find the E23 interferer to Divis was eliminated or mitigated?

I agree with you: if you had bad or ghosted analogue your digital should be fine now. Logs are very tidy, have minimal windloading and are highly directional but they have to be amped for long distance reception.
