Is it worth trying to fix?

I've had my ladies mountain bike since my early teens (mid-20s now). Unfortunately it's been in my shed for years with the tumble dryer so it's acquired an enormous amount of rust on the wheels. Is it worth trying to clear up, or would it be dangerous to cycle it even if I do manage to get rid of it all?

You can get rid of most rust relatively easily, but as to weather it's dangerous or not, it's hard to tell without seeing it. Throw up a photo of it and lets have a look.

Honestly, you usually find you need to get new parts. Cables, housing and chain to say the very least. Could need the brakes adjusted and gears adjusted too and bearings could possibly need to be regreased. This could cost a fair amount for a bike that might not be the best in the first place.

It depends of whether it was a decent mountain bike or a cheap mountain bike? Bring it to a local shop and get a qoute for the repairs needed if it's too much save up for a new bike i'd say.

It's probably just surface rust. Of more interest is whether the chain, pedals, handlebars etc all still move freely.
