Parents leaving the country permanently.

    Hi,
I'm going into my third year of college and currently am not getting any grants as my parents are both employed. My parents are both originally from outside the EU (but I have an Irish passport and was born here) and intend on going back to their home country permanently around the end of September/early October. I'm just wondering what kind of grant, if any, me and my brother (who's going into his second year of college) would be eligible for, and where I can find further information on this. I know for these kind of things you usually have to apply very early and I'm hoping I'm not too late and don't miss out on a year of funding.

Thanks in advance and any help is appreciated.

They usually take the preceding year's situation as the deciding factor, ie. for entry in Sept/Oct 2012, they base on your circumstances from Oct 2012.

Ask your college what grants / assistance they have available locally.

They would probably still need to means assess your parents.

I would suggest contacting the grants office (SUSI)

You can contact SUSI on 0761 08 7874 or email them at support@susi.cdvec.ie

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
