So I am sitting at the laptop with none of my shows to watch...

With House, Fringe, The Killing, Dexter, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones & The Big Bang Theory all done and dusted for the time being, I need some no blood on my entertainment schedule...

Can anyone recommend shows for me...

I'm into Sci-Fi and Crime stuff too, I've seen all of Star Trek stuff and Stargate...

Please people of boards your guidance is needed...

if you dont mind "classic" tv sci fi, babylon 5. the first season is a bit ropey but it's neccesary for the story. seasons 1-4 are one long story arc. things get mentioned in a half handed way in s1e5 that only become relevant in s3e12. the show was planned from the very beginning and it shows. aside from the dodgy effects at times it's still one of the best sci fi shows made, probably the best.

Babylon 5 is one I've had in the back of my mind, as it gets mentioned a whole lot in the Big Bang Theory. How good is Deadwood, is that the one set back in frontier times in the states?

Also before anyone mentions it, I've already seen Firefly and up to season 6 in of The X-files...season 6 sucks so kinda gave up on it

    Seen all of Frasier, Seinfeld.

Used to watch CSI but just got sick of it, seen 2 season's of 24 but again got sick of it a bit. Saw the first season of Nip/Tuck and just kinda stopped watching it for some reason I can't remember...

But Curb it will be, I've seen Arrested Development and loved it and was told to watch Curb and never got around to it.

Can I assume you've seen Modern Family?

The main guy in Eureka kinda annoys me, but Warehouse 13 just looks awful from the ads...
    Oz

Was that the original HBO series that made it big?

Got to season 3 of SOA but gave up on it after 3 episodes of season 3, the acting just really got to me and the accents. Seen bits of Underbelly when I was in Oz, but never heard of the others.

Only heard of The Shield & Oz on your list. Don't know if that's good or bad thing :p

Love how nobody has mentioned Community, watch a bit of it and it didn't come close to living up to all the hype and talk about it

Battlestar Galactica, one of the best sci-fi shows around

Breaking Bad, one of the best tv shows ever

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,050 ✭✭✭gazzer

True Blood is back. 2 episodes in to the new series

Happy Endings. Friggin hilarious show. 2 seasons have already been shown

Once Upon a Time I know the premise sounds cheesy as hell but it is a great show

Definately watch Curb. One of the funniest programmes ever made.

Also you never mentioned if you watch Supernatural. If you dont you should start watching that. 7 seasons of goodness right there.

The Shield is loosely tied to SOA, cross over in writers and actors, also some of the gangs in SOA appear in The Shield. Think of the good action in SOA over course of a season, and that's normally crammed into 1 epsisode of The Shield. Excellent show.

Of the others they are mainly comedies (apart from Homicide), they would not be as sitcomy as Community. Bored To Death is kind of a detective show with dark humour.

    yep, it's incredible
for my money better than the wire.

babylon 5 is well worth a watch. you might have to struggle through that first season, it's more than a bit dodgy but once it finds its stride in season 2 it's fantastic.

Il admit even I stopped halfway through season three if SOA as it was cringeworthy with the shamrocks and shenanigans!!

Season four more than makes up for it I promise you!

well first off i think you should give The West Wing a go (if you havent already), i consider it the best show i have ever watched, its a political show, im not into politics myself but i thoroughly enjoyed all 7 seasons,

there is a new show called continuum that you might be interested in, so far its 4 episodes in and its looking like it could be a good show,

im currently watching castle never heard of it before but started watching it a few weeks ago and currently on season 3, theres 4 seasons so far and its been renewed for a fifth, its has Nathan Fillion as a writer who's allowed help a new york detective solve murders, its a great blend of comedy action and drama,

i have shows that are constantly being recommended to me stored up, The Shield, Friday Night Lights and Mad Men are the most constant ones being recommended to me,

id also recommend Breaking Bad (4 seasons heading into fifth and final season next month) and Homeland (1 season so far renewed for 2nd), 2 of the 3 best shows currently in production the 3rd being Game of Thrones,

for a bit of fun id recomend, Suits, Covert Affairs, White Collar, Californication,

    Friday Night Lights is amazing

I'd check out Continuum as well, I think 4 episodes have aired. I caught up on Parks & Recreation recently and it's a great show.

It's better when you watch S3 all in one go, the Irish epsiodes pass by very quickly. Great start and ending to the season as well.

+1 for Friday Night Lights, great show that I flew through. Perfect journey and ending.

+2 for Parks & Rec, much better than most comedies on TV

If you like Sci-fi then I would strongly recomment the new Battlestar Galactica which is pure sci-fi brilliance. If you haven't seen Firefly I would also recomment it. It was really short-lived, I think it was only 7 episodes before it was cancelled but it was still great and was followed by a full movie which was also good. Fringe is also worth a look.

    Hope this helps.

Veronica Mars. I have watched a lot of TV shows but I have never loved any show as much as I love Veronica Mars. As much as I love The Wire, Dexter, Friday Night Lights etc., they still don't compare to VM for me. There is just something special and magical about Veronica Mars that I have yet to see in another show.

One's I've in bold are the ones I've seen all of already
so for what you haven't watched any of these

for great dramas any of the following cannot be more highly recommended
    The Wire
    The Sopranos
    Friday Night Lights
    West Wing
    Battlestar Gallactica

and for some great humor, look no further than these 3,
    Always Sunny in Philadelphia
    Californication
    Entourage

all great in there own right, its really down to what humour your in for which show you should watch, there are most likely other and probably better shows out there but i haven't watched them so i wouldn't recommend something i haven't seen,

Ok, I have to choose the next one. I tend to prefer watching shows with seasons that are done. So, I have The Finder which it seems was canned after 1 season. Grimm, which will probably be what'll get recommended. And also The Borgias which I haven't even started season 1 of. I guess seeing as I'm pretty much expecting Grimm to win the recommendation, I'm interested to hear peoples opinions on the other 2. Particularly The Finder. Worth even starting it? I never saw Bones which I believe it is a spin off from.

    So far I've watched

    Bored to Death-Fantastic
Friday Night Lights-Fantastic, just a few things on the show tho that really are sticking with me...
Just finished watching the show tonight, and found the end of it quiet good and satisfying but also very depressing. Tim Riggins is "happy" leaving out his dream of never leaving Texas by building his dream house. The fact the Jason Street and Riggins don't seem to get together in the last show, and that it seems that relationship is over. Overall Riggins just as a person really depresses me, because I feel he is actually a fantastic person(as seen in seasons 4&5) but fears it and tries to hind it behind the alcoholic Riggins.

The whole Julie Matt, relationship...Even tho they seem happy in the 8 months later scene, her whole thing before state when Matt's grandmother is getting the wedding dress and at times her looking away while hugging mate, really raises the question in my head of "Does she really love him, or just the idea of loving him"

That's about as much in depth thought I've ever put into a show, and I don't know why.
