hi all. currently looking at a job listing.. and the minimum requirement is:

Min requirement 2:1 Level 8 Hons Degree (any discipline).

i only passed my degree but i went on to complete a Masters.

would my masters overshadow the degree?

and is it worth applying or would they just pass on me straight away?

    any ideas?

The minimum requirement is a 2.1 level 8 degree, you have a level 9 so you are over this minimum and generally it does not matter about the 2.1 part as a result.

    many thanks for your reply..

is any degree a level 8?

and therefore is any masters a level 9?

Yep, it may overshadow the degree if it's in a relevant area.

Are you sure you can get on to a masters with a pass degree? ITs and Universities usually require at least a 2.2 or often a 2.1 to get onto a masters program, but may waive that requirement if you have relevant work experience.

Either way, I'm not sure of the benefits of doing a masters just because you got a bad degree. IMO you're probably better off doing some work experience. A masters program will be tough and time consuming and there's no guarantee you'll get a better mark than you did in your degree.

thanks for your reply, the masters is already done. and it wasnt in totally connected area to my degree, ever so slightly connected.

my degree was in It Management and my Masters was in Music Technology.

i got into the masters based on Interview and Experience. the degree also helped.

but this job is looking for a minimum of a 2:1 degree in any area.

so the question is, do i meet the minimum requirments?

i suppose they are just looking for educated people cause the job provides training........

In that case, I'd say the 2.1 masters would meet their requirement.
A masters is a "master's degree".. what most people call a "degree" is actually a "bachelor's degree"
Just put the masters first on your cv.

    This is the correct answer.

Stop over-analysing; you qualify; go into the interview confident.

Good luck, and remember to be soft on people you interview in the future. :)
