Do you mean bands that play music or bands that you put on your finger?

    Hey,

If your on a budget you should check out face value, they quoted us 1300 without dj and 1500 with a dj.I havent seen them at a wedding yet but they have being around a long time and I have only heard good things about them.

Also, you should check out the elastic band, they quoted us 1450 euros and I seen them perform at a wedding and they were very good.

These bands are from the Galway area and thats where we are getting married so they might be a bit more expensive If they have to travel.
    Best of luck with it!:D

Hi OP, do you have to have a wedding band specifically? We booked a band we saw perform in a local bar. They´re a rock band but we liked them. They only cost €1100 or so I think

Have you thought about having a DJ for the full evening? That's a lot cheaper if you're on a budget and a good DJ can get the crowd going just as much as a band.

This is what we are doing, saving us around 1200 euros! But make sure you put plenty of research in to whatever dj you go with. You dont want one who just sits in the corner playing cds.You need someone whos good at interacting with the crowd. You should try and go and see him at another wedding If you can also.
    Best of luck with it!:D

Hey,I would go and see them at a wedding first. My friend got married and he got a band that he really liked but only ever seen them in a pub.
He said they were terrible at there wedding. They wouldnt play any waltzes, etc and were not any good at entertaining the particular crowd.

you get what you pay for here. see my post in the bands section about costs for band & Dj.

There's a full list of bands in the bands thread sticky. I know theres bands will do it for the money you're asking. keep looking.

Always state the date you're looking for and the general area of the wedding.

A cheap band wont always work, an expensive DJ wont always do the same job as a good band. An expensive Dj is usually better then a cheap band though.

why would a pub band do waltzes?

why would a pub band do waltzes?

Would you not think If you were to hire a band for a wedding that you would want them to play some waltzes for the older crowd?
Most bands that play in pubs have played in weddings also, thats where my friend got caught out.

why would a pub band do waltzes?

Musicians tend to eat less when they say "I dont play that type of music".

no. What age are you talking about here?

Waltzes are a myth anyway. Coming from someone who plays at wedding, I get asked to do waltzes in about 1 in 20 gigs. When someone older comes up and asks for something for the older crowd and I ask what they had in mind, its Bee Gees, Rod stewart etc
Get as many young people up to them as you do anything else.

As earlier stated, this mentality would be in the majority. Good music is good music. Older people will get up first no matter what the genre if its good music.

It depends on the crowd I supose.I just made a general statement what my friend said from his own wedding.I also have a wedding coming up soon and her parents asked because we are only having a dj would he be doing waltzes

Fair enough you probably know more If you play at weddings yourself.I think personally Its always good to get a verstaile band that can play everything

Yeah thats why I think Its important to get a band that can play everything.Dont mean to panic you or anything but just send them a quick email and ask them when there playing at a wedding and see how they perform at it.Best of luck with it,hope It works out well for you

An all night DJ should be able to get every request in. If he's any good he'll have spoken to you beforehand to establish the crowd and any requests not to mention having request slips on the night. This would be the norm for an all night DJ.
For an after band DJ theres sometimes not enough time to get all requests played but he should get most of the way there.

I was trying to say any band worth their salt should be able to play anything in case they get asked, but the reality is they dont get asked to do waltzes as much as youd think. No more then say contemporary jazz pieces, if ya get me.

Still have to be able to do them though. :)

no thanks, they´ve done weddings before and got good reviews - plus my wedding´s in 10 days, so I think I´ll leave it. I don´t thin k a band can be expected to play every type of music - better to get a band that´s good at the kind of music you´re looking for, rather than a band that´s mediocre at everthing

While it's not directly forbidden by canon law, almost all dioceses in Ireland forbid a wedding taking place in a church on a Sunday, some bishops may allow it on a once off basis but this is almost unheard of. You can only have a non religious wedding on a Sunday.
