Audi A3 Engine Oil Indicator

    Hi all,

The oil indicator light came on the dash of my car recently.

Checked the dipstick and the level was quite low.

Im worried that the car is burning oil as there is a dried residue over the engine cover near the oil top up.

How often should the oil need changing in miles after a full service?

Thanks for any insight you can offer

That residue might simply be from spilt oil when it was last changed. Have you checked underneath for leaks? Fill the correct oil to the max mark on the dipstick, note the mileage, and check again regularly - that way you'll have an idea of how much oil the car is getting through.

Best thing to do is as Anan1 says, top up and note how many miles you do before it comes on again. Some cars use oil in their general running and need topping up occasionally. Not sure about diesels but my petrol does.
