I can afford to pay 5.5k for it.

What's the chances of them selling it at that price does anyone know?

Obviously I know that every place might be different but is there a general rules of thumb in the dealership industry that here might be wriggle room of say 10% of asking price?

I'm hoping that if I turn up with 5.5k cash they'll find it hard to turn down.

It all depends on how keenly priced the car is in the first place. Maybe throw up a link to the ad, see what people think?

Turn up with 5000 in one pocket and 500 in the other. These guys chance their arm at every opportunity, you might as well play too.

It's imposible to say. You can always expect to have at least 100eu droped, but not like 10% as standart.

Dealerships can be even more tight assed then private sellers.

You better have full 6k just in case. I bough a car last week and I wanted to drop price at least 500eu, when we got there we started to check car. my mechanic friend said: dude, there is nothing I can do, car is just perfect, I can't drop price at all, it's like fecking new!
I still managed to ask seller to drop 100eu, but I would given full asked price even of he wouldn't have. Not all cars are overpriced. Some cars are well priced.

As anan1 said, it depends on what the car is actually worth.

Maybe the original owner moved from the uk to mayo to be fair :)

    Maybe there's a service history

Excellent, will be steering clear so!

Pity though really liked the Ford Focus.

Anyone recommend another similar car, 1.6 diesel, 5 doors, economical for less than 6k?

Milage looks a bit low on average for a diesel car however you can come accross now and again. Generally a garage will drop at least 10% for a straight sale. I be doing what more or less what Dmasta said go in make out a check ( cash) for 500 for deposit tell them you will give them 5K. I think they still have to NCT it do I see that it will be sold with a valid NCT to 01/14 which means it is not done yes.

Know very little about ford 1.6 diesels, but beware he is only giving a 3 month warranty try to bargin for a 6 month one if only on engine/gearbox for second half.

I actually went to view that car about a month ago
Brought a mechanic with me and he said it was in really poor condition and to steer clear
The dealer also had it advertised on done deal for e500 less
When I was looking for something I had a golf/focus sized diesel car in mind around the 5.5k mark, anything decent seemed to be snapped up within a few hours of going on done deal, just have to be pretty quick off the mark if you see something you think is decent

70k miles on a UK import that is 7 years old ???

Not impossible, but you absolutely need service history to validate that mileage.

UK owners like low miles cars too, so the low miles example get high prices in UK and it's usually not financially viable to import.

As said low miles aren't impossible once the car checks out. My '03 S2000 is about to break 40k miles, but the pre-sale check confirmed it had just been babied. Maybe this is the same.

    I'd seriously question that mileage.

The ad states that the TB was done. Its not due on those 1.6 TDCIs until 125k miles

A Honda S2000 and a run of the mill Focus diesel are different kettles of fish infairness.

Think I've found the same car €1,000 cheaper.

Could get lucky, when I bought mine it was advertised for €6950, thought it was worth about €6300 myself. Had a drive around, asked a few things about it and asked for his best price. He said to give him 10 mins, came back, €6000! Was delighted!!

Stinks of ex rental to me, very easy find that out if it is one owner, just look at the logbook.

    Seems a nice car though.
