Only outbound transactions to other banks. Inbound transactions to UB accounts are not happening.

Not all outbound transactions are going through. I have 4 payments from last Wednesday & Saturday which although they were deducted from my account were not received by the receiving bank. The UB website now says:

We are also unable to make any domestic or international payments to non-Ulster Bank accounts at this time. If you have a payment you need to make over the next few days please use an alternative means of doing this e.g. paying at another bank or in a post office.

I'd be happy to do that if they would refund me for the payments not made!!

Its so annoying that the financial regulator does not step in & order UB to refund money which is sitting in their holdng account as they really dont seem to have any way of passing it across as if they did Wednesdays payments would have hit by now.

As I understand it they have to receive a formal complaint from at least 1 individual to formally step in?

Them to step in? They didn't step in during the boom and start doing there job, there hardly going to start now. Banks really do run riot and are allowed do what they like.

Does the Central Bank or the Financial Regulator even deal with complaints? According to their website, it's the Financial Services Ombudsman that deals with those types of complaints, and the Ombudsman only gets involved once you've exhausted the bank's own internal complaints process.

Just got off the phone with KBC Bank (my mortgage provider) and explained that I was calling to enquire about a delay in mortgage payment as I bank with Ulster Bank.

Well, the lad I spoke to in KBC, David, couldn't have been more helpful.

He basically told me not to worry!

Said that they (KBC) usually present for mortgage payment on the 1st of the month, but they have arranged for this to be delayed until the 14th of the month in the event that the funds are not available on the 1st... with no affect to my credit rating, and no late payment fees/penalties in this case.
He also noted on their system that I had called to notify them of the possible delay.

Anyway, that's put my mind at ease... a little!

Now to ring BOI about my car loan :pac:

Okay so *only* another 21 days after a formal complaint is made to the bank then. I wonder why they're making public statements that they haven't received a complaint?

My cashflow is usually right on the knife edge, especially towards the end of the month, so I nearly had a sh*tfit when all this craic started. I've been into my local branch 3 times sorting out cash, rent, bills etc, and each time the staff there have treated me and my little balance like I was a millionaire. They're getting nothing but dogs abuse (don't get me wrong, this situation could have been wrapped up by last Thursday if some idiot hadn't clicked OK) but it's genuinely not the staffs fault. They've made sure that I'm covered for cash, advanced me some of my wages in case nothing appears on Thursday, checked to see that I had enough money leaving the branch, God love her, the girl behind the counter handed me her umbrella while I was leaving because the heavens opened.

I'm fully aware that as a student living alone I don't have the mortgage and childcare worries that others do, but that was my experience and I've no intentions of switching banks.

On news last night, (think it was TV3) they had a person from financial ombudsman on & i think he said they had only recived a small number of complaints.

I sent an email to them to point out as well as people awaitng wages into their UB acounts who are receiving some access to funds, there are also people such as myself with money taken from our account but for whom UB are not providing any access to funds.

I got a reply today to say that management at ulsterbank say such complaints are being prioritised but if i get no progress by Monday to get back in touch with them & they will follow up with Ulster bank.

Its not individual complaints they need to look at at this stage. If UB are this incompetent i cannot understand how they are allowed to operate.

Can I add that the staff in my local UB branch were ridiculously helpful & patient.

Just checked my UPC account on the phone and it seems my balance is paid. But as yet the DD has not shown up on anytime.

So I'm guessing UPC got their money but the transfer hasn't been reflected in my account?

Was just onto a very nice woman in BOI car services who told me not to worry if payment doesn't get through to them because of the issue including that they BOI would wipe any late payment fees should the need arise :)

In fairness, it's not their fault. They're the ones having to face the angry public and take the blame for someone else's fcuk up!

Any potential for loss of money here? Or is it just a delay?

The notice on the home page has been updated to say they are confident they will restore a full service by the start of next week. So we've gone from the end of last week, to the start of this week, to the end of this week, to the start of next week. Did I miss any?

I haven't seen anything to that effect myself, and as I say, I'm not sure if the Central Bank even deal with complaints. But just to be on the safe side, I just sent them an email with an official complaint, so we'll see what, if anything, happens.

hmmmmmmmmm........... thats different to my experience. I was just on to BOI loans about the same issue.

First I called the BOI branch where I took out the loan. They put me through to the loans dept where I was then basically told she didn't know - and that I should contact the branch where I took out the loan!

I told her I did that and they transferred me through to her. So then she put me on hold while she checked. Came back with "didn't they (UB) say on the telly they would pick up any late payment fees......"

I asked: "So are you saying that BOI will be charging a late payment fee, and I'll have to sort out a refund with Ulster Bank?" to which she replied that she wasn't sure......

made a cash lodgement today in my Ulster Bank branch. No computers used, just the manual booklets. They told me it would take up to 3 working days for the money to show up in my account! i know its not the tellers fault, but its still extremely frustrating when you have direct debits and standing orders that need to be paid.

Their new slogan should be: Ulster Bank -Computer says no! :D

Ulsterband have been taking care of outbound payments, just not using the interbank clearing system. It is how peoples wages have started showing up even though the UB systems are still down.

They will eventually get everything caught back up, there is so much redundancy in place that things don't really get lost for long. I can only guess that they've pulled hardware from UB to catch back up RBS or Natwest, confirm the fix goes through, then move onto UB. Given that UB operates in Euro while their core systems are Sterling, that would be the safer way to do things. If I was given the choice I'd have gone after Natwest first since they are likely the smaller out of the two UK bits. Get it caught up, check everything works, then start following to RBS and UB.

Same here, all the DD's that were due to be paid last week, are showing up as paid on the receivers side, but it isn't reflected in the bank balance, or showing up as transactions (which isn't surprising in all fairness)

Not too worried myself as long as all the DD's are getting paid. I track all my spending anyway, and know exactly how much is in my a/c even if UB don't, so am not particularly worried by this fiasco at the moment

Transferred some cash from savings (SIDA) to current, and was able to withdraw at atm. Like in the old days. Not sure if it will work for everyone tough, but the balance updated instantly. Think the main issue are transfers made from/to non-ulster bank accounts.
Credit card balance is out of order...up and down in 1 day...

They keep saying they are working their way through the backlog. But has anybody on here actually received money into their account via an electronic transaction since last Wednesday ?

Nobody that I've spoken to has and as far as I can see on this thread, nobody seems to have.

I must be one of the lucky ones, got monthly wage on Saturday, due Friday! Student Current Account, if it matters!

Edit: But waiting on another EFT transaction that was due Thursday, still lost in cyberspace.

This will only work for relatively small amounts, similar to the €500 limit the branch can give you. Larger amounts will be blocked by the daily ATM card limit.

My branch told me today that a transfer to my account made last Thurs should show up "hopefully" by Friday, and they are "hoping" that they will be processing as normal from Friday.
