    Hi there,

I've recently jumped into the world of ebay! :)

All is well, but Irish postal prices are really getting me down. I'm selling some relatively heavy (and big in size) collectible books. I'm not making much form them at all after delivery. :(

As an example, I recently sold 5 collectible books for 50 euro but they were over 2kg, so it cost me 44euro to send them to Germany. It just wasn't worth the time or effort in the end, but it was kinda' my own fault, as I was very naive to just how expensive the Irish postal service is. :(

So, I was thinking of selling some collections in 'bulk', and then sending it via a courier, to save on postal prices.

Any advice is greatly appreciated in the matter! :)

    Cheers,

    Rob.

An Post have a Book Rate for sending books abroad. It would cost at least half of what you are currently paying. Check out www.anpost.ie or else ask at your local post office.

Thanks for the link! It doesn't seem to say much unfortunately, or mention if you can have a registered option. Because, I'd be sending these form an ebay auction, and I'd be a tad worried that the buyer may say they didn't receive the item.

Also, my books are rather large, not regular paper back books - So would that matter I'm wondering? Hmm..

I'll give them a phone later on!

    Thanks again,

    Rob.

Out of curiosity, why are you bearing the cost of shipping rather than the buyer?
Whenever I sell overseas, I clearly state the price of shipping, and if someone wants to pay, fair enough, but I certainly won't be shaving off my profits to cover it.

Unfortunately, it's hard to remain competitive against other sellers if you don't sacrifice some of your profit when your postage costs is so high. Because, then they can just go off and get the same book for a cheaper price. :(

The books must be packaged in a way that they can clearly be seen as books, ie a cut out window in a box they are packaged in or see through packaging. It's also not registered but the cheapest option out there for any heavy weights

If you are doing volume, you'll always get better rates, even from An Post. - But I'd reckon you'd need to be doing 40-50 parcels a week for the likes fo DPD to be worthwhile.

Also, probably best to stick with EU countries first as paperwork and taxes at the other side for non-EU can make it difficult.

BTW - DPD (and others) would come down to about €15-€20+vat for EU deliveries of a single box up to 20kg.

I know a lad who sells a rake of make up on ebay. He drives from Dublin to the North every second day to post his stuff because it works out cheaper.
