What happened to your chain? Problems with them is almost unheard of.

There is no listing from any of the aftermarket suppliers I have access to here at home.

When engine is warm i can hear light rattling noise. When engine cold no noise.I went to mechanic,he told me it could be chain or tensioner.Looks like noise coming from under chain cover. But he wasn't sure.Told me to look for timing chain kit.

Car drives well, just slight fluctuation in rpm's while idling.

I'd want to be more certain that it was the chain before I'd go to the rounds of changing it as its a fairly big job.

I'd be almost certain that the idle issue is not related to the noise.

Thanks Nissan doctor . Would loose chain not cause engine to run rough(vibrate)?

Mechanic told me that loose chain could cause this idle issue. As its jumping and missing marks. And engine vibrating only while its cold.

I been told that mazda and ford used the same engine and i can use ford parts. But ford dealer denied that ant told me to go to mazda dealer.

Common issue what i found in online mazda forums was hidraulic chain tensioner failure but on high milage mazdas.

Anyone know any information about mazda and ford sharing engines?

I had exactly the same problem with my Mazda 6, with vibration and idle issue and it turned out to be a number of things that were causing that.
My Mazda was 2004 with 1.8 petrol engine.

For idle problem I had to have the throttle body and idle air control valve cleaned, replaced spark plugs and ignition leads and replace airflow meter. Word of advice if you have to replace airflow meter, replace it with original Mazda one instead with other spurious airflow meter because I tried with the cheaper spurious part and I got other type of problems with idle and lack of power so I wouldn't recommend it.

And for vibration it turned out to be engine mount that was worn and it was causing vibration through the dashboard and driver seat and you could feel the vibration through the driver door.

What year is your Mazda 6 and how much miles are on it?

This sounds more like a misfire to me which is exactly the same problem that I had with my Mazda which was cured by replacing spark plugs and ignition leads.

    Thans for advice Bobo 78

My mazda is 2005.I replaced spark plugs, all filters and oil. Mechanic checked lead and told they are good.So next step to clean throttle body , idle control valve and check airflow meter.

Vibration is very light feels like engine not working evenly while idling.

Bobo 78 did you clean t/b and idle control valve your self? Is it difficult to do?

    Thanks again for advice.

    Sincerely

Nope I didn't do it myself, I got my mechanic to do it cause I m not that skilled.

One sign of knowing if throttle body is very dirty on Mazda 6 is if the throttle pedal is stuck into position when you press it when cold, and it takes a bit more force to press it to move it. That's what happen with my Mazda 6.

Idle problem very well could be with airflow meter cause I had same issue and it turned out to be airflow meter. Before replacing it maybe try with cleaning it first.

Just a note even thou my car had very same issues and maybe even worse diagnostic didn't show any faults and few mechanics couldn't find the problem because problem was intermenient.

Can you feel vibrations on your drivers door when they are open and engine is idling?

No no vibration when door opened.Vibrates very lightly, feel like engine not working evenly jumps up and down and works fine,That's happening when engine cold. Can feel light vibration trough steering wheel. But not all the time.

I got it from Mazda main dealer and it cost me around 280 euros.
    It was original part thou.
Before I bought original part from main dealer I bought airflow meter from eBay that wasn't original but had the same part code and it said that its for Mazda 6 but I got different problems then and after that I bought another airflow meter from Mick Garage which was supposed to be spurious part that was supposed to be made by the same company that makes them for Mazda but in fact it was some cheap Chinese made part that wasn't any good either  and I paid for it good price and got no refund.

My advice if you have to get new airflow meter buy it from Mazda because these spurious are no good according to my experience.

You say in another thread that you got the timing chain/tensioner etc changed for €290 parts and labour:eek:

That was either a mate doing it for you or there is something up there. That's cheaper then it would cost to have most timing belts changed.

Yes that what cost me.I don't know if it was mate rate.Been told that's what they charge.Diesel accord 200 euro plus parts petrol is cheaper.

I have my doubts about that job, dropped you pm if don't mind.

To honest.I know that guy who did work but that wasn't favour or something.Parts cost 140 and labour 150.Been told that that's normal labour charge for timing belt.

It wouldn't be far off for some timing belts....but most chains are substantially more work then belts.

They told me that they change timing chains quite common on Honda Accord 2.2 diesels and charge around 200 for labour.Because mine was petrol so been charged 150 for labour.

The engine type(petrol or diesel) doesn't effect the labour.

As I said in PM, if they are doing the job properly(new chain/tensioner/guides/gaskets as required etc) then they are the cheapest I've ever seen or heard of for a registered garage.
