Increasing Vertical Leap

Hi lads, basically like almost all non-freak athletes or very tall people, I've always wanted to be able to dunk. I've been playing basketball semi-regularly over the last few months and I've been wondering is it even possible to dunk for me. I'm 5'9'' and I'd say of decent enough athleticism. Anyone have any idea on routine or anything to increase vertical and what kind of equipment I'd need etc.?

Also even if I won't be able to dunk it would be handy to be a bit more explosive.;)

get yourself a 3 foot box and practice sets of 3x8 on that.

once you can, hold VERY light weights and build that up.

    Continue on.

Box jumps are the best things ever for vertical jumps

I don't really have any boxes to use. Could I use a metal bench in the park? Also would cycling negatively or positively affect it? I cycle most places.

as an amateur, cycling will help you.

If you were elite you could get into the whole slow twitch, fast twitch, but just a regualr dude, leg exercises will of course help you.

And yeah, any height to jump up to will help out like a bench. Just make sure its pretty high so its a challenge
