    Hi guys
Im going to buy a bike as my mountain bike is brutal for cycling to work on.

I am looking for a road, hybrid or a cheap racer.
    My budget is €500 euro.
I am not really sure what i should be looking for when i am buying it so any advice would be handy.

Would you be carrying much with you on your comute (change of clothes, breifcase/laption, etc)?

If so a bike with a pannier rack might be ideal.

This Corratec Shape is pretty well specced, even had pre-installed dynamo lights, which would be handy for mornings and evenings in the winter, and mudguards which will be essentail. not far of your price range and lots of good reviews online.

This Vitus Bikes Velu 1 is slightly better specced again, has the same features but this time only a rear light comes installed, but it's not very expensive or much effort to put a front LED light on. It's also pretty near your budget.

Both would be well able for Irish city/suburban roads and would probably be nice an comfy for some light touring as well.

i would be bringingchange of clothes and possible a laptop but it will be in a back pack so i have no need for a pannier rack. Im a young fit lad so i can manage carrying abit of weight.

when i am buying the bike what questions should i ask? i dont want to be one of these who ask is it a fast bike.
What should i be looking at spec wise also? Most of the stuff i have read about a bike has gone over my head

Are you using BTW scheme or just buying it yourself?

If buying it yourself Adverts.ie and Donedeal are always worth a look.

I'm sure someone here will be along to give better advice for the Giant Rapid mentioned above is a great bike and the entry level should be under your budget.

I'd personally recommend a Lapierre Shaper 100, it should be under budget, they make lovely bikes.
I know FELT have a hybrid/flat abr road bike at about that price range too and they make great machines for the money.

    Where do you live?

Someone here might be able to recommend a shop that won't fleece you.

I cant avail of the BTW scheme as my employer hasnt signed up for it.
I would prefer to buy it in the shop rather than off of done deal or adverts. I have no comeback if anything goes wrong.

    I live on Northside Dublin.

i got a quote today from a shop on dorset street on a merida racer for €500

<Edit> What is a good/ reputable shop to buy from.
