Playing European on Thursday. Booked for weeks. Day off work. Day off from family. New balls bought. New glove bought. Playing well.

Will it rain? Forecast says raining all day.

    Kill me.

Just got one of these myself on Friday and went out and won the Monthly Medal with it on day 1.

Nearly killed me to sell my nearly new i15 for €110 though - bloody McGuirk flogging them off new for €149.

€129 for that Cobra is amazing also - some great deals out there at present alright.

Hope it went well for ya, new clubs are deadly probably my last weakness thanks to the fe**ing recession.

Dont like the look of the Pings to be honest and for the price of the S3 it was pretty hard to beat. (I'm also coming from a King cobra 440SZ so seemed like an obvious choice)

So apart from being eaten alive by flying, biting things it went well. Seemed to be hitting it a couple of yards longer than the old club and, more importantly, off center hits were not as terrible as they felt. Nice sound off it too :)

"King cobra 440SZ" funnily enough I had one of them too, unlimited version (the illegal one).

I brought my ZL up to a driver fitting session a few months back and tried the Razor fit, R11, New Ping and the Cobra AMP. The best results I could get by far were with the AMP. Maybe it just suits my swing or my eye but it was a lovely club.

Since tried a 9.5 ZL encore on a trackman and it 20 yards further then my current ZL 10.5 which much less dispersion, getting too much height on my current. Just need the money now..:)

Played with the face angle settings too but in the end just set it to neutral

I used to have the original Cobra 430SS - what a noise that beast made. Everyone in the driving range turning round and looking at who was making that noise :p

I had the illegal one and switched to the legal one...that'll tell you how old my driver is/was.
the 440 is a 9* Stiff so I went with 9.5 stiff on the S3, didnt notice much different so happy with that, was worried the shaft might be vastly different but doesnt seem to be.
Lovely sound of the S3, very muted :)

+1. The ZL sounds like the crack of a whip. Nothing like the older stuff.

Is it noticably better than your old driver?
I have the original Cobra F-Speed, it replaced the 440SZ I think so it's fairly old.
I'm just wondering if I am missing out on anything by not upgrading.

Picked up one of these Cobras today, cant wait to get up the range tomorrow

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,246 ✭✭✭sofireland

Hi Greebo/Richbohs, now you've had your S3's a while what do you make of them?
I'm humming and hawing about getting one at the moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,370 ✭✭✭✭GreeBo

I'm very happy with it. Hitting it nicely and as above, on the course the terrible feeling ones (toe/heel) arent really that bad which is nice.
No crazy noise on impact either.

TBH for €149 I think its a great buy. That said I dont think I've even bought "this years" model of anything...seems like madness to me :)

    Cheers Greebo.
I'm in the process of upgrading my irons to some Taylor made r11 and I've an r5 driver and was thinking maybe of treating myself more

Really enjoying it, great club. The forgiveness it offers from a miss hit is unreal. Would defo recommend it.
