Decode this RAM chip

I have a Dell Inspiron 620 MT pc. It came with 2gb ram ( 1 X 2048mb DDR3) and only 1 expansion slot. So only 1 other 2gb ram chip can go in the expansion slot, unless I replace the original ram chip, which I don't want to do.
Dell in their wisdom have changed the specs on this model and I cannot find my version on their site any more. I lis hereunder the details written on the ram chip.

    2GB 1RX8 PC3 - 10600U - 9 - 11 - A1

    HMT325U6CFR8C - H9 N0 AA 1214

    Can anyone decipher the above?

In the older 620s the ram chip was 1333mhz. The new ones are 1600mhz. I dont want to get the wrong one:)

Dell put Service Codes on the back of their machines, this should get you the exact specs of you machine, and you could possibly even ask them for the RAM direct.

Yea, thanks for that Fionny. I've bunged that service tag no off to Dell, but no reply yet.

Can you use this site (or one similar) to drill down to your model of machine for the specific type of ram it uses (or even run a scan with the softare on that site) for the type of ram in use?
    http://www.mrmemory.co.uk/

You can also plug in the Dell service tag into the Dell website (under support and downloads at the bottom) - check out "initial system configuration" - should also give you the RAM configuration.

    Try CPU-Z:

    http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

It should be able to tell you all the relevant info.

Thanks, Kippy. I had forgotton about them, actually. Had looked at that site about a year ago for a mate who was upgrading his lappy ram.

goto the memory scanner on www.crucial.com ? (if act 8gb for my laptop was cheaper than dells 2gb upgrade)

Its a standard DDR3-1333Mhz model, CAS latency of 9, using Hynix brand memory chips.

And bog standard DDR3-DIMMs should work.

Just get another 2GB DDR3-1333Mhz Cas 9 module and you should be good to go.

It's not really like in the older days where you had to exactly match modules (in fact this was mostly BS coming from manufacturers so you'd buy more from them than you need).

Chipsets and memory controllers are clever.

Agree with Ednwireland - www.crucial.com is a great site for RAM, link below goes directly to model (taking it's a desktop), and it's cheap enough to boy off

Thanks very much Dublin_Gunner and Wijam. Went on the mrmemory.co.uk website and got one for £10 + postage. Miles better than Dell, whose best price was €37.00:eek:
