    Any fans of this show?

I watched it after it was recommended to me when I was looking for something similar to One Tree Hill and I thought it was quite good. That said, the last season was pretty poor.

I think killing Mischa Barton off was a mistake and it never really recovered from there, although ratings wise it was on the way down before that happened. No idea if she asked to leave or not but the creator of the show said he lost focus as the network wasn't supporting the show, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Even though season 4 was poor I liked the ending. Seth and Summer getting married, Sandy teaching at university, Ryan graduating and becoming a successful architect and reaching out to that kid at the end, just like Sandy did to him.

Only just read that Chad Michael Murray turned down the role of Ryan to play Lucas in OTH instead. I didn't know that.

Overall, a decent show but had the potential to be a lot more than it was IMO.

    Really liked this.

Problem was the guest characters in my opinion. Once they had two hits with Anna and Theresa, they steadily increased it. In Season 2, they were only used as a crutch to keep the main couples apart. That gardener fella was shocking altogether. Thought Alex was good, would have preferred if they kept her and Seth for longer though.

Then in Season 3, the guest character fails really went up a notch. Hated that scam artist, anybody Sandy dealt with RE the hospital, all of Marissas new college friends, Taylor.

Surprising thing is, that Taylor was actually my favourite character in season 4, such was her character revamp.

The Rainy Day Women from season 2 was the best episode of the entire series, the end with Seth and Summer.......omg!, i was screaming at the tv!, superb if highly cheesy.....with the upside down Spiderman kiss and Champange Supernova.....a perfect episode!

Taylor/Autumn Reeser SAVED season 4 from being a total wipeout....i loved it, season 1 was superb, but once Josh Swartz bailed in season 2 the show died a slow death.

I think my favorite aspect was the summer/Seth romance. There was always a feeling they'd end up together you know, they were meant for each other. The bit when they kiss in the rain..... :o

Barton wanted off the show she felt she was bigger than the show and could do better things which she didnt :p

Season 1 was great and Season 4 was good as well Taylor fitted in well and worked better with Ryan than Marissa imo

Marissa's mother was my fav character

That seems to be a common theme with young actors who have been relatively successful in TV. I guess they must have agents in their ear telling them to get out of TV and into film, but similar to Chad Michael Murray when leaving One Tree Hill things haven't worked out.

Mischa Barton went off the rails completely after The OC.

Completely agree, though I think Ryan's best match was Sadie in S3

Watch Fearne and Mischa BArton documentary on youtube..Shows a completely different side to Mischa she has gone a bit mad if you ask me! I started watching The O.C again since all TV programs have stopped for the summer. I'm nearly finished season 3 now. Love Seth/Summer romance and think Taylor is hilarious!

Funnily enough I just watched this last night.

Couldn't believe that Mischa left Fern waiting outside her front door for over 4 hours :pac: Stopping then halfway through filming for over 90 minutes to touch up make-up etc and then trying to say she's not one of those people who has to get done up when going out.

She's definitely not all there anyway.

As others have said, Barton leaving effectively ended the show.

One of the all time favourites.

Years ago I used to slag shows like these until I was given the first season to watch. I found it odd that I liked it so much that I bought the other three boxsets a few ago, and as I was walking up to pay for them my face reddened with every step I took. I knew there was a question waiting to happen as I placed them on the counter, I had a lie in place for it in order to hide the fact i liked it. But when I went to pay for it, I couldn't lie as your one asked loudly if I liked OC, I could see people looking me. I pointed at my hearing aids to signal I'm completely Deaf. She didn't say anything after that. Awkward.

I was getting bored of Marissa in around the third season. There was something about her I didn't like but I enjoyed the final season more without her in it, even though it wasn't all that great. I would have liked to see more of the Ryan/Frank relationship. And Julie grew so much over the four seasons. She still had her problems though.

I may have been embarrassed to buy the boxsets in public but I enjoyed the series for it was, fun and enjoyable.

I found my problem with Marrisa was.... her character never advanced really. Ryan, Seth, Summer, Sandy, Kirsten, all grew as people. Marrisa goes off in season 1, and remains basically the same till she dies.
