Install works fine right up to 'completing installation', it stays at that fora while and then the screen goes black. Then the monitor stops receiving input and goes off. However the computer is still running.

Any ideas? I have removed any USB peripherals and it still happens.

i used to get this installing server 2003. when the black screen appears, force the computer to shut down, then power on again and press f8 to get to the advanced menu and boot using the default vga driver. it should boot then, then go into windows and change the display adapters accordingly...

Which option is this? I try safe mode and it says can not continue install in safe mode and restarts. EDIT: I see I have to hit shift and f10 in safe mode when it gives the error and disable driver is it?

I select some low resolution option and the boot screen with 'starting windows' hangs :(

sorry mate, thought it sounded like the problem i was having where windows would set the display driver resolution too high for windows to display onscreen. sounds like a different driver problem here, but don't know what one it could be

Nono, thank you! Your idea led to the solution! Ad the link from jarren was great too.

It took a whole day to fix a problem caused by one stick of ram :/

For anybody else that may encounter this and the advanced boot vga option doesnt work do this:

1.The first time windows restarts during installation hit f8 after bios and before windows loads to enter advanced boot.
    2. Select 'Safe Mode' and the boot process will begin.
    3. Once booted you will be presented with an error, selecting anything will cause you to restart and your installation will fail. Press nothing.
    4. Press SHIFT+F10 to open cmd prompt.
    5. Enter compmgmtlauncher to open device manager.
    6. Disable any references to display adapters, there were two in my case that said display adapter(VGA compatible).
    7. Restart and complete installation.
